Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Mar 02, 2003 4:19 pm

SATURDAY 22nd FEBRUARY
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION

COLESHILL TOWN 1 v 2 SOUTHAM UNITED

Scorer: Carl Morris.

Coleshill’s disastrous run continued with this defeat by lowly Southam. Few players came out of the game with any real credit as Town failed to exert any authority on a poor, if hard working Southam team who are heading for relegation.

For the second time this season Coleshill saw the nucleus of the team poached away by the promise of better things. Chris Davies, Steve Lees, Pete Hall and Gary Falconbridge all left to join Racing Club Warwick, who are under new management.

Coleshill enjoyed the better possession in the first half hour without seriously testing the keeper, but at this point, if Town had managed to get their noses in front, Southam were there for the taking as they are easily the worst side to visit Pack Meadow this term. But credit where it is due, the visitors fought for every ball and when on 30mins they took the lead, they were certainly up for the fight. The visitors cleverly worked the ball down the left and when the cross came in Frank Woodburn was turned too easily allowing the shot at goal that went past Danny Moseley, making his first team debut. Carl Morris and Mitchell Thompson both failed to make the best of good opportunities and Christain Crisp had a run and shot well saved as Coleshill upped the pace. On 50mins a slip by the Southam centre back allowed Carl Morris a free run on goal and he rounded the keeper to slot home for the equaliser. A pinpoint free kick from Lee O’Brien found Matty Devine but his shot was well saved and Morris shot wide from the rebound. A right wing cross from Lee McCarthy was headed against the bar by Allan Thomas, as at last Coleshill started to take some control. In the next attack Christian Crisp headed on for Thompson but the forward shot over. Southam ventured forward for a rare attack and stunned the home crowd by taking the lead, with their scorer evading several tackles before beating Moseley from just inside the box. Coleshill pinned Southam back for the remaining minutes but failed to test the giant visitors keeper. A cross by McCarthy skimmed off Thompson with the goal gaping and O’Brien and Bradbury both saw yellow as tempers started to flare.

Team. Danny Moseley, Lee O’Brien, Simon Bradbury, Frank Woodburn, Carl Smith, Christian Crisp, Matty Devine, Lee McCarthy, Allan Thomas, Carl Morris (Steve Fulford), Mitchell Thompson. Subs not used- Tony Gormley, Steven Grady.
