Alveston 0 v 4 Coleshill Town

Postby Alan Beckett » Sat Sep 11, 2004 7:04 pm

MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 11th SEPTEMBER 2004
ALVESTON 0 v 4 COLESHILL TOWN
Scorers: Craig Davies 2, Danny Carter, Steve Lees.

Coleshill looked to continue their fine run as they visited lowly Alveston and although the blistery conditions made good football difficult, once Town edged ahead on 15 minutes the result was rarely in doubt.

The home team started the brighter and had the first chance. A good cross from the left took an awkward bounce leaving the attacker a difficult task as he failed to get his header on target. Coleshill have only played in short spells in most games this season and this game followed a similar pattern. Manager Mick Beadle feels there is still so much more to come from this team, but apart from the Griff game, goals don't seem to be a problem. Town were still finding their feet when they took the lead on 15 minutes. A short free kick was rolled into the path of Kevin Wagstaff and his ferocious shot was going wide but Steve Lees stole in at the far post to head past the stunned goalkeeper. On 21 minutes the game was virtually over as a contest as a headed back pass eluded the Alveston keeper leaving Craig Davies the simple task of tapping home. Danny Carter, two goal hero from mid week at Massey, created two chances in quick succession to increase the lead and although his efforts went very close, a quick glance up would have seen Stuart Howard in a much better position. Just before the break Coleshill showed just what they are capable of with a possession move from defence to attack involving six players. The passage of play deserved a gaol but the final pass from Des Wilkes to Davies just ran away from Town?s leading scorer. Danny Carter hit the side netting in an otherwise uneventful start to the second half. The home keeper came to collect a long ball and clearly handled the ball outside the area but the assistant on the far side disagreed. Coleshill increased their lead following a rare Alveston attack. Town broke quickly through Des Wilkes who released Danny Carter. The young forward confidently slotted the ball past the advancing keeper and into the net off the post. Mick Beadle took advantage of the situation by giving all three substitutes a run out. Alveston had two further headed chances to get something from the game both going wide. Then with 12 minutes remaining, following a rain storm, the referee ordered a touch line to be remarked when an assistant flagged to say he couldn't see the line. With time running out Craig Davies nonchalantly struck a shot from 22 yards into the top corner and Alveston had a player sent off for a racist comment.

Team;- Craig Jones, Matt Ward, Steve Lees, Des Wilkes (Chris Gee), Karl Jones, , Stuart Howard, Carl Smith (Dean Farrington), Kevin Wagstaff, Craig Davies, Danny Carter (Mark Hill), Mitchell Thompson.
