Midland Combination Premeir Division
Saturday 27th November 2004
Coleshill Town 1 v 1 Shifnal Town
Scorer: Tim Lane.

Coleshill were dealt a blow before the game with the news that Carl Smith had failed a late fitness test, Mathew Ward deputised for his first game following a long injury.

Shifnal were the first to show with an early corner that Coleshill cleared with little difficulty. This was followed by a snap shot by Syder which sailed harmlessly over the bar. With only ten minutes played the visitor's offside trap had caught Coleshill out on three occassions. Carter fed McPherson who saw his first time effort saved by the keeper on the 12 minute mark. At the other end the ball was played twice into the Coleshill penalty area and the defenders cleared with some difficulty.

Shifnal were dominating the mid field without turning their superiority into goals and Jones had to be at his best to deny Syder with a save low down to his left. Shifnal had three good chances to breach the home defence as Coleshill struggled to make any impact on the game. In fact it was 30 minutes before Coleshill mounted a worthwhite attack. A long ball from Howard found Carter on the edge of the penalty area, his first time effort just cleared the crossbar.

Shifnal had the ball in the net after 35 minutes but a foul was called on the keeper to keep the scoreline blank. The legs of the visitor's keeper denied Carter on the stroke of half time as the young striker jinked past three defenders before firing a shot to the keeper's left. Immediately afterwards Jones flew through the air to deny Shifnal's Syder what seemed a certain goal.

The second half was a complete reversal as Coleshill dominated long spells of the game and it was no surprise when Tim Lane pounced onto a free ball within the penalty area to score his second goal in as many games after 74 minutes. The lead was short lived however as the visitors were level only four minutes later. Both teams had chance to kill the game but a draw was all that Coleshill had to show for a much better second half performance.

Team; Craig Jones; Steven Lees; Frank Woodburn; Josh McPherson; Derek Wilkes; Kevin Wagstaff; Stuart Howard (Chris Gee 62 mins); Mathew Ward; Tim Lane; Danny Carter; Mitchell Thompson. Subs not used: Matthew Phipps; Lee Dempster.
