TUESDAY 3rd JANUARY 2005
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER
COLESHILL TOWN 0 v 2 BOLEHALL SWIFTS

Six points from three games over the holiday period isn't a bad return but Coleshill will be disappointed they didn't make it nine as once again they failed to impress against Bolehall. Three defeats this season is bad enough but a look at the record books shows Swifts have done the double over Town in each of the last three seasons, which is evidence enough to officially make them our bogey team. This, however, was by far the best game between the two sides this campaign, which could have gone either way, indeed if Craig Davies's first half effort had stood rather than be ruled out for an iffy offside then the result could well have been different, but on the whole Coleshill could have no complaints as Swifts seemed to want it just that little bit more.
Coleshill edged possession in the first half but the two best chances fell to the visitors and prolific goalscorer Ryan Allmark uncharacteristically sliced wide when well placed. The best move of the game involving a 1-2 between Craig Davies and Tim Lane opened up the visitors defence for Davies to slam the ball past the Swifts keeper. There were no complaints or appeals until everyone noticed the linesman standing with his flag raised, and the goal was disallowed. Davies again ran at the defence but ran out of space and eventually over the bye line. A Tim Lane strike forced the keeper into a save at the foot of the post as Coleshill finished the better in an end to end half.
Davies set up Lane but with only the keeper to beat he blazed over the bar. In a matter of minutes two goalmouth scrambles, one at each end, could have broke the deadlock but Jones saved at the home end then Chris Davies seemed to be dragged back at the other before Lane's shot was blocked. With a goalless draw looming, a mistake seemed the only way to separate the sides and sure enough it came on 68 minutes. Des Wilkes under hit a back pass and sold Jones short, Ian Purver took advantage to cross to Allmark who rolled into an empty net. Coleshill went in search of the equaliser, Lane shot over again, Howard put in a dangerous cross, Gee had a shot saved but in injury time Swifts made the game safe as Steve Lees misjudged a cross leaving Brett Larkins clear to glance a header into the corner of the net.
The tenth defeat of the season but at least we don't have to play Bolehall Swifts again.

Team: Craig Jones, Matt Ward, Des Wilkes, Steve Lees, Stuart Howard, Josh McPherson, Carl Smith (Danny Carter), Chris Davies, Craig Davies, Tim Hilton, Kevin Wagstaff (Chris Gee).
Sub not used Matty Phipps.
