Saturday 8th January 2005
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 1 v 1 Pilkington XXX
Scorer: Craig Davies.

Pilkington had been good value for their 3-1 win back in October and were holding their own in the top six following their promotion from division 1, but they have plummeted down the league since then and are a much changed side from that first game. Coleshill manager Mick Beadle decided in a shuffle of positions with Chris Davies dropping back into the back three and Matt Ward taking up a more forward role on the left side. Kevin Wagstaff was unavailable due to injury but hopefully will be fit for Tuesday's game versus Dudley Sports.
The pitch played remarkably well considering the recent weather but the strong wind made controlled football difficult for both sides. Pilkington's two forwards looked lively and were definitely quick, giving Town's new back line plenty of problems, but the first goal came about because of a Coleshill mistake rather than their pace. The home team were in possession and moving forward as a unit when Stu Howard's sloppy pass gave the ball away. Pilkington quickly switch play and found No9 free on the right side of the penalty area. The forward took one touch then rifled past Craig Jones in the Town goal. Coleshill hit back when Tim Lane blazed over then Craig Davies released Danny Carter who chipped the keeper who had come off his line. Unfortunately the ball just went wide of the post. The wind spoiled the game as a specticle with both keepers having a cold and quiet afternoon.
Danny Carter hit the post after only 48 seconds of the second half and then the best move of the game involving Carter, Davies and Lane opened up the visitors defence for Craig Davies to sting the hands of the keeper with a rasping shot. Both sides had opportunities to add to the scoreline but the final spark was missing, particularly for Coleshill and it looked as though they were going to slip to their second defeat of the week. On 87 minutes Davies and Lane combined for a copy cat move and goal as in the game last week against Bolehall, but unlike last week when the effort was ruled out for offside, Davies's fine bending shot was enough to bring the sides level. Coleshill, with their tails up, could have won the game when a clever Craig Davies run created a hole in the defence which Tim Lane ran into and shot from 18 yards just over the bar. Pilkington also had their chance to take all three points in the dying seconds but Craig Jones just managed to change direction and pounce on a deflected shot.

Team;- Craig Jones, Steve Lees, Des Wilkes, Chris Davies, Stu Howard (Dean Farrington), Carl Smith, Josh McPherson, Tim Lane, Danny Carter (Lee Dempster), Craig Davies, Matt Ward. Sub not used Chris Gee.
