Bloxwich Town 2 v 1 Coleshill Town

Postby Alan Beckett » Mon Mar 21, 2005 1:38 pm

SATURDAY 19th MARCH 2005
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
Bloxwich Town 2 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorer: Tim Lane.

Manager Mick Beadle read the riot act to his team following the embarrassing defeat to Marconi. He demanded much more discipline from his squad at that was what he got from this much better performance and was unlucky to lose a close encounter with second placed Bloxwich. Alan Wright made his debut following his transfer from Boldmere and club captain Steve Lees, who was looking tired and out of form, stepped down. Matt Ward has took over the captaincy at least until the end of the season.

Coleshill felt that they deserved a draw from the first game with Bloxwich back in January but over the two games to come away without a single point is dissapointing. Town took the lead through prolific scorer Tim Lane who was playing up front on his own in a 4-5-1 formation. Lane nipped in to get to the ball first following a defenders header back to his keeper and then lobbed the ball into the net on twenty minutes. All three goals were sloppy affairs as Bloxwich levelled on 40 minutes. A quick free kick caught the Town defence napping and Mark Swan prodded home a header into the danger area. On 70 minutes Bloxwich were awarded a disputed corner and with Coleshill protesting again the home team took the kick quickly and Stuart Whitehouse scrambled home from six yards out.
Manager Mick Beade was pleased with the performance and thought his team unlucky to lose to two scrappy goals. "We could have won it as both Kevin Wagstaff and Mitchell Thompson had one on one's with their keeper and I would have put money on one of them scoring. Overall this was a disciplined performance played with great team spirit." said Beadle.
Coleshill are on their travels again to Meir on Wednesday and then at Dudley on saturday but are looking to continue their improvement and put further points on the board.

Team:- Craig Jones, Alan Wright, Matt Ward, Des Wilkes, Frank Woodburn, Mitchell Thompson (Stuart Howard), Carl Smith (Stuart McLaughlan), Liam Daly, Craig Davies, Tim Lane (Danny Carter), Kevin Wagstaff.
