Wednesday 23rd March 2005
Midland Combination Premier Division
Meir K.A. 0 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Liam Daly, Danny Carter,

Coleshill were determined to avenge the defeat to Meir in the cup which, along with a reverse at Dudley, in one week ruined all the previous progress the team had made this season. Town continued the good work they had started at Bloxwich last week, wore down the home team and eventually ran out worthy winners, but had to rely on two teenagers to find the net. Ironically, Coleshill hope to continue the pay back on Saturday as they visit Dudley in a morning kick-off.

Meir had one eye on their cup semi final this week and indicated they were under strength but in an impressive first half both teams played some slick, up tempo, one and two touch football. Kevin Wagstaff was the first to show for Coleshill after the home team enjoyed the better of the opening ten minutes. His shot was fumbled by the keeper and spun away for a corner. Town slowly came more into the game with good moves involving Lane, Woodburn and Davies but Miles Millington Day was the busier of the two keepers. Firstly he saved a shot from the edge of the area then as he came out to the edge of the box a forward went round him to the bye line, cut back to the penalty spot where an onrushing midfielder completely missed his kick with the goal at his mercy. Day then saved with his feet and cleared two corners as Town weathered Meir's best spell. The half ended with Coleshill in the ascendancy, a Wagstaff free kick desperately srambled to safety.

The second half belonged to the visitors as Meir were forced back and were rarely seen as an attacking force. Lane shot from distance and his looping effort was going wide but the keeper still made a desperate effort to reach the ball. Wagstaff forced a corner, Alan Wright crossed in nthe face of goal with no-one getting a touch, Stuart Howard shot wide as Town dominated possession but couldn't find the killer touch. The patient buildup's finally brought their reward on 77 minutes. Tim Lane rolled the ball back into the path of Frank Woodburn and the centre back whipped in an early cross. As the keeper waited to claim the cross Liam Daly nipped in to head effortlessly into an open goal. With a little bit of composure the game was over at 1-0 and with the back line of Alan Wright, Matt Ward and Frank Woodburn looking unbreachable, Coleshill took advantage and slowed the game down. With time running out substitute Danny Carter's quick feet earned him a free kick to the left edge of the box. Liam Daly took the kick and Carter was on hand as the keeper dropped the shot, to force home from a yard out.

After a lean spell Coleshill are starting to find their form again and their final six games gives them an ideal oportunity to cement their position as only one game is against a side in the top half of the division.

Team:- Miles Millington Day, Alan Wright, Matt Ward, Frank Woodburn, Stuart Howard (Chris Gee), Carl Smith, Liam Daly, Kevin Wagstaff, Craig Davies (Danny Carter), Tim Lane, Des Wilkes (Stuart McLaughlan).
