Midland Combination Premier Division
Barnt Green Spartak 3 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorer: Danny Carter.
Coleshill were down to the bare bones as they travelled to Alvechurch to play high flying Barnt Green. With so many players missing for varies reasons manager Mick Beadle was forced to play an infit Craig Davies, who lasted 45 minutes, draft in Tom Atkins from the youth team and had goalkeeper Craig Jones on the bench. Barnt Green, the Chelsea of the MidCom, were on a fine run of late and after a unimpressive start to the season, including a 4-2 defeat at Pack Meadow, were making their finances count by powering up the league table.
In an uneventful first half played on a dreadful pitch, Coleshill took the lead through Danny Carter's seventeenth effort of the season. Stu Howard took a corner on 21minutes which was half headed clear but Carter controlled the clearance on the edge of the 18 yard box, jinked past two players and shot low across the face of goal, the ball somehow missing everyone and finding the corner of the net. Carter is now only one behind leading scorer Craig Davies, a magnificent effort for his first full season at this level. Town held the lead until half time which slightly flattered them but the home team rarely troubled goalkeeper Day.
Spartak upped the pace in the second half and their superior strength and power broke down the Coleshill rear guard three times through Kieran Holland, Sean Burrell and Warren Sewell to take the points and Town could have no complaints with the result but performed admirally given the circumstances.
Team:- Miles Millington-Day, Alan Wright, Chris Gee, Matt Ward, Carl Smith, Stuart Howard (Tom Atkins), James Lloyd, Kevin Wagstaff, Craig Davies (Lee Dempster), Danny Carter, Mitchell Thompson. Sub not used Craig Jones.
