Season Review
After a season where Coleshill went through FOUR Managers, Chairman Paul Billing was hoping that new Manager Grant Joshua would stay for the whole season and settle the club in the higher section of the Northern Premier League Midland Division.
The season started with the F.A.Cup and two difficult games against Eastwood Community which Town finally came through after a replay and extra time. A narrow 1-0 win against Brocton took them to Mickleover in the Preliminary Round but this was a step too far and they lost 5-0.
In the League, Coleshill only lost one game in their first seven (not including the defeat to Walsall Wood who were later withdrawn from the league) and that was 0-1 to RCW, so not a bad start. However, Coleshill only won ONE of their next ten League games, 3-1 at Rugby Town, as cup games dominated the season.
In the FA Trophy, the Colemen beat Grantham, Carlton, Ilkeston to reach the First Round, away to Gloucester City who at the time were TOP of the league above Coleshill. Nobody gave them any chance of winning that game but they did, 3-2 in front of a near 500 crowd. And so Coleshill were in the Second Round of the F.A.Trophy, the furthest they had ever been, and were at home to Biggleswade Town who were also a league above but were bottom of it, so they had a chance. Half Time and the Colemen were 3-0 up, loving these cup games, but wait a minute, nobody told Biggleswade the game was over! Full time Coleshill Town 4 Biggleswade 5, and the Trophy was over for another year but there was still other Cups to play for!
In the League Coleshill had some fine wins! The double over Boldmere, a win at Sutton, 6-0 against Lye and a 2-1 at Long Eaton but they couldn’t sustain a winning run that would take them into the play off places.
Back to the Cups and an early exit in the Birmingham Senior Cup away to Hednesford, what a lovely ground that is. But success in the Walsall Senior Cup! Home to Walsall FC in the first round and a 2-0 win with Joe Palmer getting his name in the CTFC history book, scoring against a Pro team. Next up Rushall Olympic who Coleshill beat on the way to winning the cup back in 1983, was that a sign? No goals but Coleshill won 4-2 on penalties, wow, maybe it’s our year! Into the Semi Final Away to Stourbridge, surely they would be too good for us? Another goalless game and another 4-2 win on penalties and into the Final.
Just two league games left against sides that had struggled all season. Bedworth were in danger of relegation and Lye were already relegated. Two poor performances and two defeats, what a way to end a league campaign!
And so to the last game of the season, the Walsall Senior Cup Final, but wait! It seems that Grant Joshua has been touting himself for other jobs! He’s announced as the new manager of Rugby Town, so who’s going to manage the side at the Final. Up steps Gio Dainty, almost 350 appearances and a massive character around the club. Coleshill and Darleston were well matched, their two league encounters both ended 2-2, Coleshill finished in 9th place and Darleston 7th, and a half time scoreline of 1-1 was expected, but Coleshill roared on to win the Walsall Senior Cup for the second time.
A fabulous end to an interesting season. What does 2025-26 hold in store?
