Spoils Are Shared

Although dictating terms throughout, Coleshill were forced to share the spoils against Bournville. In the first half an overhead shot by Roy Sanders almost gave Town the lead, but the ball bounced clear off the underside of the cross-bar. Shortly afterwards Sanders had the ball in the net, following a great run and shot, but a linesman had flagged for another forward being offside. Coleshill maintained the ascendancy after the interval but Bournville took the lead from a breakaway. Within minutes a cross by Eddie Hanlon saw Sanders head the ball goalwards and a defender was forced to handle. Phelps easily scored from the penalty spot to put Coleshill on level terms. Town continued to attack with a shot from Phelps hitting the woodwork. In the closing minutes, however, Bournville should have snatched victory when they won a penalty, but the spot-kick was sent wide.
