Whillock Hits Hat-Trick In First Victory

Following three successive draws Coleshill claimed their first victory of the season in the Midland Combination First Division and the match was a personal triumph for Bobby Whillock, who scored a fine hat-trick. Unbeaten in November, Coleshill now look forward to the start of their Decemeber fixtures, playing Malvern at Home this Saturday and then fellow strugglers Northfield, Walsall Wood and West Midlands Police. Manager Mervyn Parsons said: “If we can maintain the same impetus we could start the New Year in a safe position with our re-election fears behind us.” At Pack Meadow, last Saturday, Cinderford began well and laid siege on the Coleshill goal, but in the 6th minute the homesters broke away to score. Whipps and Stevenson both had short range shots blocked, but Whillock, following up, forced the ball into the net. Cinderford re-doubled their efforts and only sterling work by the midfield trio of Allen, Hevingham and Moseley kept the visitors at bay. In the 25th minute Cinderford twice saw shots hit the woodwork, but Coleshill continued to be dangerous on the break and Stevenson forced a corner, which was only cleared during a goal-mouth melee. Goalkeeper Giedd was called into action to take a fierce shot from the Cinderford right winger, before the 38th minute when Colvin met an Allen corner to head goalwards, forcing Eadie into a smart save. Coleshill created more scoring chances. Allen chipped a shot over the bar and Stevenson put a shot wide after good work by Holland and Whillock. Near half time Moseley broke through, running on to a long clearance from Hevingham, but with the keeper narrowing the angle he lobbed the ball just too high. Coleshill started the second half at a hectic pace and within two minutes they gained a penalty for a handling offence, but Allen’s spot kick was expertly saved by Eadie. More Coleshill pressure led to Whillock’s second goal. Hevingham and Moseley exchanged asses in midfield before Moseley put Whillock clear. He calmly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home. Moseley and Whipps were next to try their luck, but Eadie saved well. Cinderford hit back to score a fine goal from a near post corner, but Coleshill replied with Whillock feeding Stevenson, who hit a strong shot narrowly wide. Back at the other end Giedd had to move smartly to take another dangerous corner, but Whillock completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute after Stevenson flicked on a long clearance from Giedd. Whipps, Colvin and Whillock all went close to increasing Coleshill’s lead in the last four minutes.

First and last League Win of the season.
