Postby Alan Beckett » Thu Sep 22, 2005 12:23 pm

Saturday 2nd September 2005
Midlands Combination Premier Division
Coventry Copsewood 3 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorer: James Dance.

A second half horror show cost Coleshill what should have been a comfortable victory on Saturday. Mike Beadle's side dominated the first half and should have led by more than just James Dance's solitary strike. Dance waltzed through the home defence to slot wide of the keeper but Copsewood equalised against the run of play as centre back Ben Atkins rose at the far post to thump a powerful header into the net from a corner. The hosts then upped the tempo in the second half and O'Rourke twice raced clear through a static Town back division to draw the keeper and cooly find the rigging on each occasion. "They were as poor a side as I have seen from Coventry," said manager Mick Beadle. "We should have been four or five goals ahead by half time. But we became complacent and lazy in the second period and got what we deserved. It was a poor performance, one we have to learn from and never repeat."

Team Karl Hunter, Rob Ellis (Chris Gee), James Lloyd, Luke Pendrey, Des Wilkes, Kevin Wagstaff, James Dance, David Brush, Craig Davies, Danny Carter (Simon Bradbury), Donavan Rowe (Mitchell Thompson). Subs not used Dean Farrington, Myrone Levy.

Coventry Copsewood made 3 Team Changes from Monday nights victorious side which earned a 2-1 victory at Southam United as Kim Green, Lee Beckett and Carl Dutton were replaced by Chris Heal,Danny Vincent and Matthew O'Rourke.

The Visitors piled on the early pressure without making there chances count Coleshill's opening clear cut chance coming after 10 minutes when Rowe fired a loose ball wide of the far post from 8 yards out as the home defence failed to clear the ball.Copsewood looked sluggish in the opening 30 minutes Stuart Fraser saw a well struck 13th minute free-kick safely held beneath the crossbar by Coleshill Goalkeeper Karl Hunter while at the other end Kevin Wagstaff drilled wide from 25 yards out on 28 minutes. The visitors should have taken the lead on 30 minutes when James Dance on the right found Donovan Rowe but from 6 yards out when well placed in front of the Copsewood goal he somehow fired over the crossbar with only Scott Furlong in the home goal to beat. The visitors continued to force Copsewood to soak up some good pressure with the lively Donovan Rowe on the left causing the home defence some problems with some telling runs on 32 minutes Rowe caused the home side yet more problems as he found Carter who got to the ball ahead of Vincent,Carter's well struck shot crashing off the foot of the post.Coleshill's pressure eventually paid dividends on 33 minutes when James Dance fired the visitors into the lead, crashing the Ball home from 15 yards.Only a fine full stretched reflex save by Scott Furlong at the near post denied Daniel Carter just a minute later.Coventry Copsewood levelled the score on 42 minutes when Ben Atkins head home at the far post following a Fraser Corner from the left wing.

The Second half saw Copsewood move up a gear on 50 minutes Fraser was rather fortunate the Referee took no action as he uprooted Wagstaff but Coleshill failed to capitalize on a well placed free-kick on the right.Coventry Copsewood took the lead on 52 minutes when Matthew O'Rourke on the left found himself in acres of space his run on goal ended with him firing Home low into the far corner of the net still reeling from that setback Coleshill went further behind on 54 minutes when Curtis Jackson in the centre circle released O'Rourke who fired home from 18 yards out his low drive sailing past advancing Goalkeeper Hunter as the visitors were left stunned by 2 quick O'Rourke goals both of which were well taken.James Dance saw a long range effort from the main stand side hit the roof of the Copsewood net on 56 minutes, The visitors then made changes just 2 minutes later as Rowe was replaced by Mitchell Thompson. On 61 minutes Curtis Jackson was replaced by Luke Hopkins and within Minutes good work by Hopkins saw him turn the visitors defence only to fire wide of the target as Copsewood continued to push forward only a fine reflex save from Hunter on 66 minutes denied Bench as the Coleshill goalkeeper pushed over the crossbar his well struck effort.

Joint Manger Scott Furlong may have joked he was " Disappointed his side had not taken all 12 points " but 3 out of 4 Wins Isn't bad from a Young side who look more than capable of competing and indeed challenging for some Honours this season given there off the field problems this has been a fantastic start to life for Coventry Copsewood.Today Copsewood missed Kim Green's experience, vocal support and leadership upfront but they worked hard to carve out a Great Result as for Coleshill well Mick Beadle may well be left to ponder what might have been if the visitors had executed some of the many chances they created in the opening 45 minutes after a good start they faded but had no real answer to those 2 quick O'Rourke Goals which killed off this enjoyable and well Refereed Game as a contest, Coleshill battled hard in the closing 20 minutes but never looked likely to pull this one out of the Bag even with 5 minutes of injury time.
