Midland Combination Premier Division
Bridgenorth Town 4 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Michael Campbell, Rob Ellis.
As usual Coleshill made a bright start and could have been further infront than just Michael Campbell's opener, but again as usual Town let the opposition back into the game and finished well beaten when Bridgenorth's fourth hit the net on 81 minutes.
Coleshill once again looked like dwarfs as they lined up against yet another giant side in Bridgenorth Town. You know Town are going to be in trouble at set pieces with the ball in the air but on this occasion we were also undone by the speed of Nicky Porter for the home team. He caused the Coleshill defence all sorts of problems but he also put himself about and finally got into the referee's book with his seventh foul of the match but even that event didn't shut his mouth! Coleshill did start brightly but from a deep cross the home team had the first opening as Lewis Welch's header hit the post and bounced to safety. A David Brush free kick had the unimpressive Bridgenorth keeper scrambling the ball away for a corner and from the resulting kick Simon Bradbury almost had a free head at goal but the defender did enough to put him off. On 11 minutes James Dance fed Michael Campbell who held off his marker to advance into the box and finish well under the keeper for 1-0. Dance was causing problems on the left and within two minutes of the goal, jinked inside to shoot with the keeper again making a meal of the simple save. Campbell's strong run was halted by a tackle but the ball fell to Dance who's shot was blocked into the path of Danny Carter who shot well over. Coleshill's defence looked comfortable but needlessly gave the ball away on 20 mins for Welch to break free and shoot, Chris Butler making a fine diving save. Coleshill continued to dominate with the home crowd giving their team some stick from the side lines. A ball into the box only just ran away from Campbell, Carter nearly capitalised on a poor back pass and Dance then Carter then Greaves all kept the home keeper busy with saves. But the story of this season continued as Coleshill failed to add to the scoreline only to see the opposition score with a break away against the run of play. Porter ran clear of the defence on 37 minutes but was pushed wide by Butler. The No 7 looked up and chipped the ball into the path of Welch who found the empty net via the post. With half time looming Bridgenorth launched a long throw which was headed on at the near post, Welch chested into the path of George Williams, who looked well off side, to stab into the net for an unlikely lead to the home team at the break.
Coleshill took the game to North and were rewarded in the first minute when Rob Ellis joined the attack from his full back position, cut inside, shot with his left and scored despite the keeper getting a hand to his effort. Coleshill started to excert some pressure but the game turned when, from a Town corner, Nicky Porter ran the length of the field before crossing to Welch who headed into an empty net. Coleshill tried to get back into the game, Dance even hitting the post, and Lloyd headed over when well placed but it was the home team who now had their tails up and it came as no surprise when they extended their lead on 81 minutes from a free kick which found Steve Broome at the far post and his effort went in off the bar.
Team;- Chris Butler, Rob Ellis, Des Wilkes, Simon Bradbury, James Lloyd (Luke Pendrey), Dan Greaves, Kevin Wagstaff (Myrone Levy), David Brush, Danny Carter, Michael Campbell, James Dance. Subs not used Chris Gee, Lee Dempster, Donavan Rowe.
