Brian Atkinson reports from the Pingles Stadium

Nuneaton Griff consolidated their top six spot with a five-goal show against near neighbours Coleshill Town but they gave their supporters some anxious moments at the start as they shook off the effects of their Vase celebrations.

It was all Coleshill for the first ten minutes as Griff took some time to find their feet and Paul Grears again had to be at his best, but once a much-changed home side, with Steve Farmer making his debut, found their rhythm, there was only going to be one winner.
A good crowd on another superb night watched as Griff defended the Arches End and it was the Coalmen who forced the early pace with a succession of corners that kept Grears busy in the home goal. He pushed a header from the impressive Jamie Shipway over the top and then saved well from Greaves.
Griff hit back and started to find their men and Dave Aston should have done better when he hammered a cross from the left high over the bar. Nathan Thompson was next to show after a well-worked move left him with just Butler to beat but he shot over.
The Heartlanders were not to be denied and on thirty two minutes a superb Aston ball sent Steve Barrowman scampering through to beat Butler with a low drive. Griff upped the tempo and three minutes later it was goal number two as a fine Thompson pass from the left presented Mike Husselbury with an opening and the in-form striker gave Butler no chance with his low shot.
It was good stuff from Griff and on forty minutes they further increased their lead when Husselbury fed Barrowman on the right and a little bit of magic took him past his marker to cross for Dave Aston to knock in from close range.
Richard Kay was next to show as the Coleshill heads went down but Butler was equal to his shot. Griff were not to be denied however and on the stroke of half-time Ian Wilson battled to win the ball in midfield and strode away from the defence to hammer home past the exposed Butler.
After the break it was still the home side on the offensive and after three minutes of the half Steve Farmer played a lovely ball through the Coleshill defence for Richard Kay to race on and beat Butler with a low finish.
Little had been seen of the visitors attack for some time but with Griff ringing the changes they came back into the match and on the hour grabbed a consolation when a Hickman free-kick was headed home by Jamie Shipway This gave the Coalmen new heart and two minutes later a mix up in the home defence allowed David Brush to shoot from close in and the ball took a deflection off Millerchip and deceived Grears.
The game continued to ebb and flow but the nearest to a goal was a Dyer chip which just cleared the cross bar. Griff were content with the points ahead of a tough clash with Bridgnorth on Saturday.
