Barnt Green Spartak 2 v 4 Coleshill Town - FA Vase

Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Oct 16, 2005 7:47 pm

SATURDAY 1ST OCTOBER 2005
F.A. VASE 2ND QUAL ROUND
BARNT GREEN SPARTAK 2 V 4 COLESHILL TOWN
Scorers: James Dance 2, David Brush, Michael Campbell.

Coleshill were buoyant following the 3-3 draw last week at table toppers Barnt Green and were also boosted by two new signings with both Shaun Kidson and Sam Chatwin making their debuts. Spartak had won all their previous games at Lye Meadow but were only minutes away from defeat before securing a point against Mick Beadle's young side who are just starting to run into a bit of form.

In an end to end game both sides had chances to open the scoring but the first real piece of action was a crunching tackle from Simon Bradbury which eventually resulted in Spartak making an earlier than expected substitution. The home teams leading goalscorer Warren Sewell should have done better from a good cross but his header went wide. David Brush cleverly controlled a throw in with his chest before unleashing a shot which the keeper saved with his feet. Miles Millington-Day had to be sharp off his line to save at the feet of No8 and at the other end James Dance had a shot saved. With such an open game and clear cut chances for both teams the opening goal was a sloppy affair. On 34 mins a hopeful ball should have been cleared but the defence hesitated and Simeon Smith nodded over the advancing Day leaving Sewell to tap into the net. A Coleshill throw was flicked on at the near post to Dance who blasted his shot just over the bar when well placed.
Spartak could have increased their lead early in the second half through Sewell before Coleshill hit back with two goals in as many minutes. Michael worked really hard to earn a free kick near the corner flag, Greaves's kick was blocked but when Brush lofted the ball over the advancing defence Campbell went clear and found the corner of the net with the outside of his right foot. Campbell then became provider as he headed on a clearance to free Dance who cut inside, nutmegging his marker before stroking the ball past the keeper and into the net. On 66 minutes David Brush caught the last man in possession and again strode on to finish with aplomb. Unfortunately the defender suffered a serious injury and the game was held up whilst awaiting an ambulance. The home team were now down to ten men but the never gave up the fight. On 70 mins Campbell again took advantage of a square defence to release Dance who finished in similar fashion for his second of the afternoon. On 85 mins Spartak scored their second when they scrambled home from a corner but Coleshill held on for a first win in the Vase for 15 years.
