Saturday 8th October 2005
Midland Combination Premeir Division
Coleshill Town 3 v 0 Coventry Copsewood
Scorers: Rob Ellis 2, Michael Campbell.

Manager Mick Beadle was expected to make wholesale changes as his squad was battered and bruised following the mid week encounter with Castle Vale. David Brush, Shaun Kidson and Danny Glasgow were all missing due to injury but amazingly Michael Campbell was able to lead the line when it was thought he would be out for several weeks with a groin injury and Simon Bradbury took to the field heavily bandaged to protect six stitches in a head wound. Alan Wright came in for his first game of the season, Kevin Wagstaff slotted into his familiar mid field role and Linsell Taylor took his place on the bench following his transfer from Barnt Green.

Coleshill owed Copsewood as they suffered an unjustified defeat only five weeks ago. The visitors are going through a transition due to the manager leaving at the end of last season with most of the team departing as well. They are a young team but have made a good start and lie comfortably in the top half of the league.

Although Coleshill dominated possession, only two incidents of note lightened up a rather dull first 45 minutes. On 23 minutes Michael Campbell ran onto a ball into space from James Dance, the forward forged his way through the visitors defence, rounded the keeper and slotted home for the opening goal. On 40 minutes Coventry's No5 headbutted Jamie Shipway and Town's experienced midfielder ran 15 yards to confront the defender which resulted in a scramble involving just about every player on both sides. The referee did well to restore calm and pick out the two offenders who were both given their marching orders.

Coleshill started to play most of the game in the opponents half but had to wait until the 65 minute before the second goal came. Wagstaff had hit the post before James Dance crossed to Campbell who set up Dan Greaves for a shot which the keeper did well to save but he spilt the effort into the path of Rob Ellis who tapped home. Beadle made substitutions and a new strike force of Myrone Levy and Linsell Taylor stated to chalk up chance after chance after chance but the pair were guilty of some glaring misses as well being thwarted by the Copsewood keeper. The visitors were no threat at the other end but Coleshill had to wait until the dying minutes before they made the scoreline respectable. A corner was half cleared but fell nicely to Dance who hit a powerful low shot that the keeper parried and Ellis was on hand agin to tap home his second of the game and his fifth of the season.

It was hard to see how Copsewood were so far ahead of Coleshill in the league but it is a situation that will change over the next few weeks as Beadle's squad grows stronger and confidence is gained with each performance.

Team;- Miles Millington-Day, Alan Wright (Myrone Levy), Sam Chatwin Simon Bradbury, Des Wilkes, Dan Greaves (Mitchell Thompson), Rob Ellis, Kevin Wagstaff, Jamie Shipway, Micheal Campbell (Linsell Taylor), James Dance. Subs not used Chris Gee, Donavan Rowe.
