Saturday 29th October 2005
F.A. Vase 1st Round
Oldbury United 0 v 4 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Michael Campbell 2, David Brush, Kevin Wagstaff.

Coleshill reached the second round proper of the FA Vase for the first time in 29 years with this comfortable win over Midland Alliance side Oldbury United. Coleshill were up for the game but were surprised how easily they brushed aside their higher ranked opponents with the week to week games in the Mid Com proving more testing.

"Marvellous Michael Campbell scored twice and had a hand in the third as the Midland Combination outfit proved too hot to handle" wrote the Mercury. On Tuesday against Atherstone, Campbell should have had a hat trick before half time and he again proved to be the thorn in the side of the home defence but this time the finishing touch did not desert him. On 26 minutes Campbell chested down and volloyed home a Kevin Wagstaff cross and then just before the break Campbell turned provider to send David Brush clear to round the keeper and find the net from an acute angle. Olbury came out fighting in the second half and Miles Millington-Day had to be at his best for a couple of saves but the game ended as a contest as Coleshill grabbed a third on 51 minutes. Dan Greaves, who had tormented the full back all game, whipped in a hard and low cross which Wagstaff stroked first time into the net. Campbell twice and Rob Ellis could have increased the lead with one on one's with the keeper but Campbell rounded off the scoring on 65 minutes. The powerfull striker turned his marker on the half way line and then ran half the length of the pitch before slotting past the keeper. Campbell was the hero on the day but this was a team effort as Coleshill refused to allow their opponents a foot hold on the game and thoroughly deserved their place in the next round of this prestigious national competition.

Team;- Miles Millington-Day, Alan Wright, Des Wilkes, Simon Bradbury, Sam Chatwin, Dan Greaves (Mitchel Thompson), Rob Ellis (Chris Gee), Shaun Kidson, David Brush, Michael Campbell, Kevin Wagstaff. Subs not used Carl Smith, Dean Farrington.
