Tuesday 15th November 2005
Walsall Senior Cup Round 2
Coleshill Town 1 v 3 Rushall Olympic
Scorer: Michael Campbell.

Rushall Olympic's reserve team had a game the same night so even if the visitors were contemplating resting players, it wasn't possible and Coleshill had an opportunity to pit themselves against a team two leagues above them in the non-league pyramid. The Coleman did themselves proud as they matched The Pic's for long periods but the power and extra fitness of Rushall told in the end and there was no complaint with the end result.

For the first 15 minutes Coleshill were chasing shadows as Rushall were quicker and stronger in all areas and it came as no surprise when they took the lead with a far post header powerfully placed beyond Miles Millington-Day by Dean Baker. Town hung on and slowly started to come to terms with the quicker pace forcing a series of corners. On 20mins one corner caused a goalmouth scramble with several shots being blocked but Michael Campbell finally forced the ball home. Coleshill then enjoyed the better of the play for most of the remainder of the half. Dan Greaves, playing in an unacustomed forward position, got away from the Olympic defence on a couple of occasions but couldn't find the finishing touch.

Coleshill felt as though they could go on to win the game as they came out for the second half but Rushall quickly put the game beyond them with two goals in as many minutes. Rushall's set play was excellent all night and from a corner, a Neil Kitching header put them ahead and the lead was extended with a smart finish from Richard Brown following a period of sustained pressure. Coleshill continued to compete without looking as though they could pull back the two goal deficit but on 85 mins they had an opportunity to narrow the margin. Michael Campbell was clearly offside had he attempted to go for the ball but as he stood still Rob Ellis ran from deep to go clear of the defence and into the box. Rushall's captain did well to catch Ellis but his challenge caused Ellis to go to ground and the referee pointed to the spot. Rushall contested the decision but it made no odds as Kevin Wagstaff's spot kick hit the bar and went over. Another defeat but no disgrace. If Coleshill can carry forward this performance to Saturday, against lesser opposition, then yet another win in the F.A.Vase is on the cards.

Team;- Miles Millington-Day, Joel Mardenborough, Alan Wright, Sean Burrell, Sam Chatwin, Mitchell Thompson, Kevin Wagstaff, Rob Ellis, David Brush (James Dance), Michael Campbell, Dan Greaves. Subs not used Shaun Kidson, Simon Quigley, Brendon Shilton.
