Saturday 7th January 2006
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 4 v 2 Dudley Sports
Scorers: David Brush 2, Kevin Wagstaff, James Dance.

This was a real six pointer as Dudley were just below Coleshill in the league but would have gone above Town had they won. Manager Mick Beadle had a near full strength squad to chose from, only Alan Wright and Shaun Burrell out with injury, and welcomed back Josh McPherson who had previously given Saturday's a miss to family commitments.

Beadle opted to play five across the middle of the park and subsequently Town dominated the mid field but had to wait until the 50th minute before finally breaking the deadlock. Although Coleshill had the majority of possession it was the visitors who had the clearer of the chances but a swing and a miss and a ball stuck in the mud made sure the score remained goalless. Town's best chance of the half fell to Dan Greaves who went clear of the defence from a David Brush pass but the striker dragged his shot just wide of the far post. Kevin Wagstaff had a fine shot parried for a corner as Coleshill stepped up the pace looking for a break through that just wouldn't come, then Miles Millington-Day had to be alert as he saved at his near post. Des Wilkes showed composure and skill as he played the ball out from his own box, fed James Dance then Dan Greaves but the move which deserved a goal only resulted in a corner.

The second half continued in the same vein as a Brush free kick went just over the bar and then a Brush cross from inside the 6yard box hit a defender before going out for a goal kick off Dan Greaves. The whole squad breathed a big sigh of relief as Coleshill finally found the net and what a good goal it was. Kevin Wagstaff cut in from his wide left position and played a one two with Greaves, the ball sat up nicely for Wagstaff to hit first time but with his unfamiliar right foot, however the ball was so sweetly struck that the Sports keeper never moved but watched the effort sale into the far corner. On 56 minutes David Brush picked up the ball on the half way line but quickly out paced his marker and strode into the box to strike between the keeper and the near post for 2-0. Coleshill had a skip in their step now and could have increased the lead but they were brought back down to earth on 64 minutes when a cross from the left was slid home at the far post by Anthony Baker. Following the goalless first half, every attack now looked as if it would end up in the back of the net. On 68 minutes a Greaves cross was effortlessly nodded over the keeper by James Dance to make the score 3-1 and the winger then could have made it four but his effort hit the side netting. Jamie Shipway's first touch after coming on as sub released Brush who dribbled past the keeper and attempted to slot into an empty net but hit the post instead. Shipway then set up Dance and Chatwin for strikes which were both well saved, and then joined in with his own effort which again was well saved. Following a corner Josh McPherson had a shot blocked from point blank range as Coleshill threatened to run riot but Dudley hit back as Ryan Gardner made a great last ditch tackle but from the resulting corner Sports gained a penalty as an attacker's foot was took from him as he shaped to shoot. Anthony Baker scoring his second from the spot kick. From a game which should have been safe, Coleshill were nervously looking at the clock but with time running out Brush chased down a back pass, beat the keeper to the ball and tapped into the net for 4-2. The action continued into time added on as Day punched a cross clear and Dance ran half the length of the field to cross for Shipway who's flick ended up in the keepers arms.

Team;- Miles Millington-Day, Simon Bradbury, Des Wilkes, Ryan Gardner, James Dance, Josh McPherson, Carl Smith (Sam Chatwin), Sean Kidson, David Brush, Dan Greaves (Jamie Shipway), Kevin Wagstaff. Subs not used Lee Dempster, Myrone Levy.
