Tuesday 10th January 2009
Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup
Coventry Copsewood 1 v 0 Coleshill Town

Coleshill had their best chance of reaching a cup semi final in many years as they had already beaten Copsewood convincingly in a league game in October but Town never played to their potential and allowed the opportunity to pass them by. The game hinged around two penalty decisions, one given, one not, and the home teams successful spot kick finally saw Copsewood through to the next round.

Coleshill were first to show when a Kevin Wagstaff cross was just headed wide by Jamie Shipway's diving effort. A routine clearance by Millington-Day was charged down and the rebound went just past the post, but Copsewood did go ahead in the 11th minute with their first real attack. A cross from the right went across goal and the danger appeared to have passed but James Dance and the home team's No11 clashed, the latter went down like he'd been shot and a penalty was awarded. No6 scored for Copsewood and for the next few minutes they had chances to increase the lead but Day came to Coleshill's rescue on a number of occasions. Town gave the ball away far to easily as they searched for some consistency but it was the home team who were on top at this stage but their forwards wasted several chances. Simon Bradbury and their No9 were both lucky to still be on the field follwowing a bust up, yellow cards being shown. In an effort to get back into the game David Brush had a cross cleared for a corner, Shaun Kidson dummied for Brush to shoot and Kidson was upended but had his appeal for a penalty turned down. Jamie Shipway had a shot well tipped over the bar as Coleshill finished the half the stronger.

Coleshill pushed forward for the whole of the second half with Copsewood hitting on the break but the final pass was missing and the Coventry keeper had little to do. The nearest Coleshill came was from a Brush corner as man of the match Coventry's No5 clearly handled the ball in the area but the Ref waved play on. Coleshill huffed and puffed but they knew this was not to be their night as a very mediocre Copsewood side held on to take their place in the Semi final.

Team;- Miles Millington-Day, Simon Bradbury (Myrone Levy), Ryan Gardner (Rob Ellis), Des Wilkes, James Dance, Shaun Kidson, Carl Smith, Sam Chatwin, David Brush, Jamie Shipway, Kevin Wagstaff (Dan Greaves). Sub not used Danny Carter.
