Saturday 25th February 2006
Midland Combination Premier Division
Cadbury Athletic 2 v 4 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Danny Carter 3, Kevin Wagstaff.

Coleshill continued their climb up the table to mid table safety with this impressive win over Cadbury Athletic. Town were 4-0 up before the home team scored, although they did miss a penalty at 2-0, but Mick Beadle was dissappointed to concede two late goals. "We should have won by more. Mitch Thompson and Shaun Kidson should have added to the efforts by Danny and Waggy, and we switched off with ten to go but I am happy with the recent upsurge and by next week we could be in the top half of the table, the least I was expecting from this season."

Coleshill took the lead as early as the 6th minute. Jamie Shipway's free kick was headed away for a corner and Kevin Wagstaff, making his 100th appearance, curled his kick straight into the net leaving the Cadbury goalkeeper flapping thin air. On 22mins Danny Carter scored the first of his three and when the young striker is in form he makes goalscoreing look so easy. Carter picked up the ball wide on the left, played a cheeky 1-2 with a defender before curling the ball from the corner of the box into the far corner of the net. Athletic had shown nothing but a rampaging run and shot from 20yds from full back James Rowe, but they were given a life line as the Referee awarded them a penalty as Ryan Gardner cleared a dangerous cross but he was the only one in the ground who saw anything, not even the Cadbury players or supporters appealed and to make matters worse Gardner was booked for his challenge. Leon Mooney stepped up to take the kick but his effort went well wide and high. A great through ball by Wagstaff set Shaun Kidson free and with time aplenty he should have done better than send a powerful shot wide of the post. Simon Bradbury showed just what he is capable of with a crunching tackle as No11 set himself to shoot. Carter chased down the keeper and the stoppers mis kick fell to Shipway who released Mitchel Thompson who advanced into the box before shooting low, but the keeper made amends with a fine save.

Cadbury came out fired up for the second half but Coleshill weathered the strom and slowly started to create again. Both Shipway and Kidson had headers before Wagstaff set up Shipway for a shot that went just over. On 74 minutes Coleshill finally made the points safe. A throw in was cleverly held up by Shipway but he stood aside as Danny Carter rushed onto the ball and hit first time straight into the net and only one minute later Carter again closed down the keeper and was rewarded with a block that left him a tap into an empty net. Job done Carter was substituted but chances still came although it was the home team that added to the scoring. Chris Butler, who had had little to do in the Coleshill goal, scuffed a clearance from his hands but there still looked to be no danger as Athletic's Leon Mooney was still 35 yards from goal, but his punt left Butler stranded and sailed into the net. Coleshill should have gone nap as a great move involving Shipway and Myrone Levy left Shaun Kidson with a simple tap in but the keeper somehow scrambled across his line to save. In the final minute Cadbury made the score line look respectable from their point of view as Adam Ainge scrambed home from close range.
