Saturday 8th April 2006
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 1 v 3 Meir K.A.
Scorer: Shaun Kidson.

This was a game, on paper, that Coleshill should have won. Town were on a good run, Meir were several places below them in the league table but a delve into the stats shows that the visitors have now left Pack Meadow with all three points for the last four seasons. There are several teams in this league who seem to have the jinks on us, Nuneaton Griff, Bolehall Swifts and at home Meir although we generally do well at their place, and the Colemen just don't seem capable of raising their game enough to end the sequence of bad results.

Coleshill were at virtually full strength with an impressive amount of talent sitting on the bench and when Shaun Kidson scored a contender for goal of the season, (a volley from 30yards), with only eight minutes on the clock, all seemed well. But on a very windy day, no one seemed to be able to get the ball down and play. Meir were equally unimpressive but in hat trick man Ritchie Minor, they at least had someone to run at and scare a defence. Minor did just that twice in a matter of minutes to take the visitors into the lead although his second either took a wicked deflection or got caught on the wind as it sailed over the stranded Butler in the Coleshill goal. It got much worse for the home team as Dan Greaves hit the floor heavily following an attempted overhead kick and had to be taken to hospital with a dislocated elbow, and Des Wilkes (making his 100th appearance) failed to re-appear following the break with a re-occurance of a back injury.

Coleshill huffed and puffed in the second half but couldn't find a way back into the game and with only two minutes remaining Meir killed the game from the penalty spot. Ryan Gardner was clearly fouled outside the box but the referee failed to spot the infringement and Minor advanced into the area only to be hauled to the ground by Butler. The Meir striker took the spot kick himself to round off his hat trick and another miserable day for Coleshill.

Team:- Chris Butler, Simon Bradbury, Ryan Gargner, Des Wilkes (Rob Ellis), Dan Greaves (David Brush), Carl Smith, Kevin Wagstaff, Josh McPherson, Shuan Kidson, Shane Higgins, James Dance. Subs not used Jamie Shipway, Mitchell Thompson, Myrone Levy.
