Tuesday 25th April 2006
Midland Combination Premier Division
Pilkington XXX 3 v 3 Coleshill Town
Scorers: David Brush 2, James Dance.

Coleshill were hoping to continue their recent good run that has put them second in a league of the last six games and when Shane Higgins went close in the first minute the omens looked good but with their first attack Pilkington took the lead. Mark Ward was caught in possession and the home team quickly moved the ball wide and a cut back cross fell nicely for the onrushing Josh McKenzie who smashed the ball into the net. Pilkington were all over Town at this stage and were unlucky to not increase the score on several occasions. Coleshill slowly started to get to grips with their opponents and were assisted on 15 mins as defender and goalkeeper hesitated to allow David Brush to nip in and nick the ball and then roll into an empty net. Pilkington regained the lead soon after with a dissapointing goal. The referee gave a free kick for what appeared to be an innocuous challenge and then McKenzie rose unchallenged to head home the easiest goal he will ever score. Coleshill started to play some nice football but were always suspect to XXX's long ball tactic and Mark Ward made a great clearance from a very dangerous cross. As half time approached the home keeper made the first of many fine saves firstly from Shane Higgins then James Dance.
Within 2 mins of the restart Coleshill went further behind when McKenzie gleefully completed his hat trick. The lanky striker evaded several challenges on his way into the box and when an attempted clearance fell to his feet all he had to do was tap the ball home. This should have knocked the stuffing out of the Colemen but the went on to play some of their best football of the season with midfielder Kevin Wagstaff pulling the strings. Dance shot with the left then the right but was thwarted both times by an inspired keeper. A definate hand ball appeal was turned down before Wagstaff shot over then Brush and Ward shot wide. Coleshill finally made the break through on 66 mins as James Dance found the back of the net from a free kick Beckham style. Higgins and Smith maintained the shot count then Manager Mick Beadle went for it with a double substitution and a change to a 3-4-3 formation. Wagstaff had a dipping shot well saved and several inswinging corners desperately cleared before David Brush finally got on the end of a cross and firmly headed home. With only seconds left the keeper kicked away a goalbound shot from Dance to deny Coleshill the three points that their second half performance deserved.

Team;- Chris Butler, Mitchel Thompson, Simon Bradbury(Myrone Levy), Mark Ward, Simon Chatwin, James Dance, Rob Ellis(Joel Mardenborough), Carl Smith, David Brush, Shane Higgins(Jamie Shipway). Sub not used Ryan Gardner.
