MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMEIR DIVISION
MONDAY 28th AUGUST 2006
BOLEHALL SWIFTS 1 v 3 COLESHILL TOWN
Score: David Brush 3.

Let's look at the facts! We never beat Bolehall Swifts in the league. Cup matches sometimes but not in the league. The last time we came away from Rene Road with all three points was the 1997/98 season, with a smash and grab 1-0. To find a score to match last night you have to go back even further, 1992/93. So, now that we've broke the curse of the Swifts, is this going to be a season to remember!!!
Coleshill didn't play that well, and Bolehall had lots of chances but the usual goal machines of Ryan Allmark and Ian Purvey had off days whilst Town had the inspirational figure of David Brush.
Both teams started the game well with some sharp play and quick movement. It was easy to see why both teams consider themselves top six material. The highlight of the first half and indeed the game was David Brush's first goal. A long clearance from goal was flicked on by Josh McPherson, Brush brought the ball under control, looked up and casually lobbed the home keeper from at least 30 yards. Purvey and Larkins had efforts which went just wide of the posts for Swifts before Greg Allen made the save of the match to palm away another Larkins shot. Allen saved at the feet of Allmark before Bolehall were awarded a generous penalty. Lee Colvin tackled Purvey in the box and although the striker stumbled he kept on his feet and was preparing to shoot when the whistle blew. Purvey took the spot kick himself but blasted the ball against the foot of the post. Coleshill made the home team pay for that mistake in their next attack. Kevin Wagstaff fed Raddy Richards wide right and his cross found James Dance inside the box. When his shot was blocked the ball fell to Brush who managed to find the net through a sea of legs.
Bolehall started the second half on the ascendancy with Allmark and Juxon going close before yet another fine save from Allen from Purvey. A sweeping move involving Richards, McIntosh, Wright and Dance ended with Carlos McIntosh shooting just wide. Des Wilkes headed a free kick into the box and Josh McPherson went down in a challenge, again the referee pointed to the spot for another generous penalty but this time Brush struck home for his and Coleshill's third. The entertaining game game died at this point with both teams knowing where the points were going but there was still time for the third penalty of the night and once again it looked harsh. The referee gave hand ball but it was more ball to hand than hand to ball for the unfortunate Lee Colvin. Ryan Allmark stroked home Bolehall's consolation goal.

Mick Beadle said "This was a good and important win without playing that well. Only Allen, Brush, Colvin, Gardiner and then McIntosh late on played anywhere near to their best. But we have a resilience about us these days and we have now gone 8 games unbeaten including pre-season. The big test will come Saturday against Sphinx. After that we will know how far we have progressed."

Team: Greg Allen, Alan Wright (Rob Ellis), Rob Hipkiss, Lee Colvin, Ryan Gardiner, James Mace (Des Wilkes), Josh McPherson, Raddy Richards, David Brush, James Dance, Kevin Wagstaff (Carlos McIntosh). Subs not used Ian Bluck, Carl Smith.
