Coleshill needed to put some points on the board following the mid-week defeat to Griff or face the danger of slipping further into the bottom half of the league. Only one point separated the two teams before kick off so this was a game Town were more than capable of winning, and win they did but it was all a bit of a struggle.

Ian Bluck, David Brush and Radddi Richards were all still injured, Greg Allen was away and Des Wilkes was preferred to Lee Colvin, otherwise it was the same team as for Griff.

Coleshill started well and put Athletic under extreme pressure but the absence of a natural goal scorer meant the visitors always had a chance on the break. Adam Ainge demonstrated this when his rasping shot was tipped over the bar by Butler in the home goal. That was pretty much it for goal mouth action in a half Manager Mick Beadle described as "Shocking".

Things did improve in the second half with the introduction of in form Danny Carter who impressed with his attitude and willingness to close down defenders. Cadbury should have took the lead when a harmless cross was headed back to his keeper by Alan Wright but the pass fell short leaving an Athletic forward free on goal but he completely missed his kick and the ball trickled into Butler's arms. James Dance cleverly forced a corner and when Wagstaff's cross was half cleared Dance set himself for a shot that whistled over the bar. Cadbury again had a chance to take the lead but blasted well over as Coleshill started to force the pace but had to be wary of the counter attack. On 69 mins Coleshill finally produced a bit of quality as Carter split the defence for Carlos McIntosh to run onto and smash his shot past the keeper for his first Coleshill goal. The two combined again as Carter dragged the defence away and McIntosh went into the hole but his shot went over. James Dance stole the ball on the half way line and quickly made ground but his shot was too straight and easily saved. A well worked move involving Wagstaff, Carter and Wright ended with Josh McPherson heading over and minutes later the same player had an overhead kick saved and in the last minute Wright shot over as Coleshill finished the game in the ascendancy.

The welcome three points has put Coleshill in the top half of the league and with several players due to return for the visit of Wolverhampton Casuals in the next round of the Vase, Town are hopeful of progression in the national competition.

Team:- Chris Butler, Alan Wright, Ryan Gardiner, Rob Hipkiss, Des Wilkes, Dan Greaves (James Dance), Josh McPherson, Simon Volante (Carl Smith), Shaun Kidson (Danny Carter), Carlos McIntosh, Kevin Wagstaff. Subs not used Rob Ellis, Lee Colvin.
