SATURDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2006
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
COLESHILL TOWN 2 v 1 FECKENHAM
Scorer: Rob Ellis 2.

Coleshill were looking for a repeat performance to the mid week game at Massey where they played well but came away with no points. In fact this was the reverse, Town only played in short spells but claimed a vital three points against a hard working and determined Feckenham. Both sides were short on confidence with some poor results of late but Coleshill had just that little bit more to their game and should have scored more than just the two they did.
Rob Hipkiss returned to the defence allowing Kevin Wagstaff to take up a more familiar wide mid field role, Carlos McIntosh was tried at wide right with Danny Cater partnering Raddi Richards up front. Greg Allen was making his 100th appearance for the Colemen.
The game started even with neither side able to carve out clear cut chances. On 20mins A josh McPherson shot was saved by the visitors keeper but the ball spilled out of his hands and Rob Ellis was the first to react and toe poke into the net for 1-0. Richards fed Ellis in the next Coleshill attack but the midfielder sent his effort wide when having time and space to do better. Kevin Wagstaff released Carlos McIntosh down the right and he jinked inside but sent his shot over the bar.
Feckenham started the better side in the second half and from one chipped shot should have equalised but a great stretching save from Allen pushed the ball onto the bar. The Redditch based outfit were not to be denied however and they did bring the scores level in their next move. The Coleshill defence were caught far too square as Ryan Field sprintered onto a through ball and confidently finished deep into the corner of the net. A Kevin Wagstaff corner was dropped by the Feckenham keeper but he react quickly to block the resulting shot. Another Wagstaff corner was met by the head of Rob Hipkiss but he couldn't keep his effort down and it sailed over the bar. Ryan Gardiner then had the ball in the net with a hooked effort but the referee harshly judged the effort to be high feet! Danny Carter had a shot pushed away for a corner as Coleshill went in search of the winner. Then Carter jinked in and out trying to find space for a shot, he then laid the ball back for Wagstaff to cross and Ellis rose highest to glance a header past the diving keeper for 2-1. Carter had a shot well saved and Ellis shot wide from a deep run as Coleshill finished the strongest of the two sides. Raddi Richards left his marker for dead on the half way line and ran toward goal. The experienced striker had time and space to pick his spot but his powerful effort went just past the post.
This wasn't the best performance of the season but the three points were very welcome and a similar result against Meir on Tuesday would put Coleshill where everyone expects them to be, challenging the top six. It would also increase the confidence in the camp for the visit to Alvechurch on Saturday in the Vase.

Team:- Greg Allen, Alan Wright, Ryan Gardiner, Rob Hipkiss, Des Wilkes, Carlos McIntosh, Josh McPherson, Rob Ellis, Raddi Richards, Danny Carter, Kevin Wagstaff (Simon Volante). Subs not used Carl Smith, Mark Ward.
