TUESDAY 21st NOVEMBER 2006
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
COLESHILL TOWN 3 v 1 WALSALL WOOD
Scorers: Michael Campbell, David Brush, Shay Morgan.

Coleshill have waited a long time for this moment, 22 years to be exact, TOP OF THE LEAGUE.
To achieve top spot Town had to extend their winning streak to ten games and beat the current leaders. Walsall Wood have had a massive upheaval in recent weeks and have lost the last two games but they weren't willing to give up top place without a fight and they pushed Coleshill all the way.

Coleshill had the ball in the net within 10 mins but Michael Campbell was adjudged off side. Campbell did score the opener on 17mins when a sweeping long ball from defence found Danny Carter who squared for Campbell to tap home. Wood hit back and Mark Ward had to throw himself at the ball to prevent the equaliser then the rebound was goalbound but Chris Butler made a fine save. Ward made another great tackle as Wood searched for the equaliser but Coleshill also had their chances as Scott Wilson headed over, James Dance shot wide, and Josh McPherson had a shot saved. Walsall were having their best spell as McPherson headed a deep cross clear then a cross went along the six yard line missing everyone, but Coleshill finished the half with a flurry as McPherson had a header saved and Carter's effort was saved at the foot of the post.

A Campbell shot was going wide but Rob Ellis defected the ball inches over the bar. Simon Volante released David Brush but his effort was blocked and Campbell shot wide from the rebound. Rob Ellis pinched the ball on the right touchline and fed the ball inside to Carter who shot first time and brought out a diving finger tip save from the visitors keeper. Wood hit back and Ward and then Dance got back to make crucial tackles. On 56 minutes there looked to be no danger from a Wood throw in but No7 shot from the edge of the box through a host of bodies and he saw his shot evade the diving Butler and creep into the far corner of the net for 1-1.

The nerves started to jangle. Was it not to be! Did we have to wait even longer to finally see Coleshill Town's name at the top of the pile! Then with ten minutes remaining, a bit of class, a goal to savour! A corner half cleared fell to David Brush who chested control then volleyed a dipping shot that went over the keeper and under the bar for the lead again. Wood never gave up and went in search of another equaliser but Coleshill finished the game with a goal from their new player. Shay Morgan joined Coleshill a week ago when released by Aston Villa. He scored on his debut for the reserves and was only on the pitch five minutes when he headed home a Brush corner. Three points secured and top spot gained. A good night all round.

Team:- Chris Butler, Mark Ward, Josh McPherson, Ryan Gardiner, Rob Ellis, Simon Volante, Scott Wilson (Raddi Richards), David Brush, Michael Campbell, Danny Carter, James Dance. Sub not used Josh Gunter, Alex Lewis, Matty Tomlinson.
