SATURDAY 23rd DECEMBER 2006
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
COVENTRY COPSEWOOD 0 v 1 COLESHILL TOWN
Scorer: Carlos McIntosh.

It's tough at the top, everyone wants to beat you and Coventry Copsewood where certainly well up for this game. Coleshill had to scrap for every ball and had to defend for long periods but still had chances to add to Carlos McIntosh's goal on 30 minutes. Copsewood also had their opportunities but some good approach play was let down by the final ball and Town keeper Chris Butler was rarely in any danger.
Injuries and suspensions are starting to kick in, so Manager Mick Beadle was down to the bare bones but young Josh Gunter came into the defence and had a solid game and Simon Volante played the second 45 minutes after missing the last four games through injury.

Coleshill made an impressive start, trying to stamp their authority on the game from kick off and Josh McPherson nearly opened the scoring with only two minutes on the clock but his effort went just wide of the post. The home team refused to lie down and egged on by some over the top comments from the bench started to come into the game. A bad bounce in front of Josh Gunter allowed the left winger a run at goal but his shot went wide. Michael Campbell and Carlos McIntosh were having a real tussle with Copsewood's two centre backs but Town's best move cut open their rearguard. McIntosh laid the ball back to McPherson and his through ball left McIntosh in the clear and he confidently rounded the keeper and shot into the net with a half hour gone. Copeswood hit back and a forward went past Ward but Ryan Gardiner saved the day with a great tackle. With half time approaching McIntosh's pace took him clear again but he was hacked down. David Brush took the free kick and had the home keeper scrambling across his line and palmed the effort away for a corner. Brush's delivery had the home team defending for their lives from three corners in concession.

Copsewood had the first attempt at goal in the second half as they shot over from close range but the referee had missed a clear push, the first of many poor decisions for both sides which didn't help to calm down a game that was clearly on a knife edge. Chris Butler claimed a cross at the second attempt and Rob Ellis cleared when he spotted danger in the six yard box. Coleshill defended solidly and slowly started to create chances again and should have got the second goal that would have killed the game. A great move involving James Dance, McIntosh and Campbell saw the later into the box but the keeper saved at Campbell's feet. Rob Ellis got to the bye line and cut back a cross which McPherson hit wide, McIntosh did well to get into the box but left the ball behind at the last minute. Then a Chris Butler kick was flicked on by Campbell to send McIntosh clear and with the keeper coming out the forward lobbed the ball over the keeper but the effort went inches wide. Copswood hit back and Mark Ward headed clear a corner then James Dance ran 30 yards to get a tackle in and clear. Campbell held up the ball in the six yard box and laid back to Simon Volante but again the effort went just passed the post. Then McIntosh shot into the keeper's arms when three players were waiting for a cross. Tempers flared as the game drew to a close mainly due to the Referee never having full control and even after a mass brawl he took no action but to blow the final whistle as soon as possible.

Team:- Chris Butler, Mark Ward, Josh Gunter, Ryan Gardiner, Rob Ellis, Josh McPherson, David Brush, Paul Burns (Simon Volante), Michael Campbell, Carlos McIntosh, James Dance. Subs not used Oluwaseyi Morgan, Carl Smith.
