SATURDAY 31st March 2007
MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
COLESHILL TOWN 2 v 0 BARNT GREEN SPARTAK
Scorer: Danny Carter 2.

Manager Mick Beadle was hoping to field the same team that beat Brocton last week but Ben Usher was suspended so Danny Carter came in after an impressive display for the reserves and David Brush failed a late fitness test and was replaced in the starting line up by Carl Hind who had previously been on the bench since his transfer from Atherstone.

The wind seemed to increase in strength just in time for kick off and the match balls, just bought that morning, spent more time off the field than on as both sides struggled to cope with the conditions. A mostly forgettable first half saw Dominic Reece take over dead ball kicking but two efforts came to nothing, one cleared and the other sailing over the bar. A wind assisted kick from Town keeper Greg Allen sent Danny Carter free but his snap shot went just wide. Barnt Green could have gone in at half time two up but Allen made a great save with the visitors centre forward clear on goal, then a cross from the right was sent wide of the post with a diving header. That was pretty much the end of Green as an attacking force with Coleshill getting the ball down and playing a bit in the second half. Town started the half better and with two quick goals to assist confidence, they were always on top and in no danger of not winning this game. Josh McPherson had the first effort and when his shot was saved it fell for Michael Campbell who shot over. It’s twelve games since Campbell has found the net and the big forward is snatching at chances but his all round play is still invaluable to Coleshill and the goals will start to flow again sooner or later. A Raddi Richards ball into the box was cleverly brought under control by Joe Clarke but he was immediately bundled to the ground and the Referee pointed to the spot. With normal penalty taker David Brush unavailable Danny Carter stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way. Five minutes later and it was two for Coleshill and for Carter. Raddi Richards, who has been a revelation since dropping into mid field, won a header then a tackle then passed to Carter on the edge of the box. There was still lots to do but Carter made it look easy as he effortlessly chipped the keeper and the ball sailed into the top corner. Ryan Gardiner made a fine goal saving tackle as Barnt Green tried to get back into the game but it was Coleshill who should have added to the scoring. A Richards run and shot was tipped over the bar and from the resulting corner Carl Hind had a shot blocked on the line. A pass from Reece released Carter who nearly completed his hat trick and when his shot was blocked it fell to Richards who hit the post with his follow up.

Town are now unbeaten in four and the confidence is starting to flow again but they have a stiff test on Tuesday when they travel to Highgate who currently lie second in the league.

Team:- Greg Allen, Sam Chatwin, Rob Hipkiss, Ryan Gardiner, Joe Clark, Josh McPherson, Raddi Richards, Carl Hind (Simon Volante), Dominic Reece, Michael Campbell , Danny Carter (Shay Morgan). Subs not Used Carl Smith, Mark Ward.
