Saturday 21st April 2007
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 4 v 1 Heath Hayes
Scorers: James Dance 2, Danny Carter, Shay Morgan.

In their last five games of the season, Heath Hayes have to play three of the top four teams starting with Coleshill Town today followed by Coventry Sphinx (Tues 24th April) and Highgate United (Sat 5th May). On this evidence they will take points off someone as the big strong side put themselves about and generally made life difficult for an in form Coleshill team, especially in the first half. Once Man of the Match James Dance scored his and Town's second early in the second half the result was never in danger as Hayes's challenge faded.
Manager Mick Beadle made just one change to the side that had won the last five games, fit again Josh McPherson coming in for the unavailable Simon Volante.

Coleshill played against the wind that had just whipped up just before kick off and were soon in a battle with a robust and determined Heath Hayes. No11 had caused all sorts of problems in the reverse fixture and he again ran at our defence at every opportunity, the two central midfielders contested every ball and even out muscled Josh McPherson on a number of occasions, something not many people have done this season. But Coleshill were slowly starting to get on top and when James Dance cut inside from the right and lashed a shot across the keeper and into the net the signs looked good for a comfortable win. Hayes refused to lie down and hit back with a fortunate and disputed penalty. Sam Chatwin's clearance ricocheted nicely into the path of No7 who attempted to go round Greg Allen but miss controlled and went to ground. The referee gave a penalty which left the whole Town team up in arms and the culprite with a broad grin. Richard Hewitt scored and for the remainder of the half Coleshill lost their composure as the referee went on to make strange decisions again and again. David Brush had two free kick attempts at goal but was unable to find his range.

With normallity restored Coleshill dominated the second half. Raddi Richards, a revelation since dropping into midfield, released James Dance and his cross rolled along the six yard box just waiting to be crashed home but it cleared everbody. A Dominic Reece free kick was half blocked and fell for Dance who shot over when well placed. But on 56 mins Town got their reward. Michael Campbell held the ball up well inside the box and cleverly passed side ways for Dance to side foot home. Danny Carter slipped the off side trap and crossed into the danger area and again there was no one on hand to finish the move. Richards had a vicious shot skim the paint off the bar as Coleshill upped the heat. James Dance attempted a volley, completely missing the ball but the new, confident, determined Dance ran 30 yards to win back the ball and cross for David Brush who chipped inside for Danny Carter to tap home into an empty net. 3-1 with just over an hour gone. Dance nearly completed his hat trick but his goal bound effort hit Campbell smack in the face. Dominic Reece shot wide when stretching for a Campbell cross and then Carter shot over from another Campbell set up. Oluwaseyi Morgan replaced Carter but for the under pressure Hayes defence there was no let up. Morgan forced a great save from his first touch but the forward was not to be denied as he glanced in a header from a David Brush free kick two minutes from time.

Coleshill have now gone second behind Sphinx and top of the Form league with six wins on the trot putting pressure on Highgate and Vale for the chase for runners up spot. The game against Castle Vale on 1st May is now massive, the kind of games we have been waiting for at Coleshill for twenty years.

Team:- Greg Allen, Rob Hipkiss, Sam Chatwin, Ian Bluck, James Dance, Josh McPherson, Raddi Richards (Joe Clarke), Dominic Reece, David Brush, Danny Carter (Oluwaseyi Morgan), Michael Campbell. Subs not used: Carl Smith, Ben Usher, Ryan Gardiner.
