Tuesday 30th October 2007
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 0 v 3 Brocton

Coleshill just didn't come out of the blocks as they were outfought and outthought by tenth placed Brocton. Many teams have stuggled to come to terms with Town's 4-3-3 formation but those that figure it out quickly go on to dominate in the midfield area and on this occasion that is exactly where Brocton had the two best and most experienced players. Richard Reeves earned the man of the match award not only for his two goals but his dominace in that all important area.

It could have been different as Campbell had a great chance to take the lead in the first minute but visiting keeper Mike Shelper, who has just signed for Stafford Rangers, made a great stop at his feet. The warning signs were there as a confident looking Brocton tested home keeper Greg Allen before taking the lead on 10 mins. Allen parried a shot away for a corner but when the kick arrived Reeves had all the time in the world to glance a looping header over the keeper and defence into the net. Shelper saved again from Campbell then Chatwin but there seemed no way past the confident stopper. Matty Robinson had a shot cleared off the line but Brocton looked the classier of the two teams and No11 was causing all sorts of problems with his pace. On 34 mins Coleshill had a mountain to climb as Brocton increased the lead. Another corner seemed to be cleared but as the ball came back in the Town defence were static and Steve Bennett, who would have been offside if the defence had pushed up, backheaded in off the bar. Neil Kitching nearly reduced the arrears just befor the break but headed wide.

Robinson won a free kick on the edge of the box but the Richard Kavanagh effort summed up Coleshill's night as it sailed over the bar. The game went beyond Town as early as 59 mins as from yet another corner Reeves rose unchallenged at the far post to head home No3. Shelper palmed over the bar a Gray shot then confidently punched away the corner kick. On 63 mins Coleshill had a chance to get some pride from the game as Campbell earned a generous penalty. Robinson took the kick but you just knew what was going to happen as Shelper guessed right and pounced on the ball to complete a miserable night for the home team.

Team:- Greg Allen, Rob Hipkiss (Liam Taylor), Richard Kavanagh, Josh McPherson, Sam Chatwin, Ryan Scott, Brian Gray (Shay Morgan), James Dance, Matty Robinson, Neil Kitching, Michael Campbell (Simon Dumelow).

BROCTON STUN TOWN

BROCTON produced the result of the season so far on Tuesday night as they thrashed top of the table Coleshill away from home, inflicting only their third defeat of the season.

Fresh from a 9-1 annihilation of Brereton in their previous game at home, Coleshill were big favourites going into the game and deservedly so.

Brocton took just ten minutes to turn that billing on its head, though, as Richard Reeves gave the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead.

Things got better 20 minutes later as Steve Bennett doubled that lead, leaving the home side stunned.

Despite their lead, Brocton never relented with their pressure and took a deserved 3-0 advantage just before the hour mark as Reeves netted his second of the night.

That was to be the final goal of the game and moved Brocton into the top half of the table.
