Saturday 17th November 2007
F.A. Vase 2nd Round
Barwell 1 v 3 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Matty Robinson 2, James Dance.

The priority for Coleshill this season is the league but a good run in the FA Vase is good for confidence, for publicity and last but not least for the prize money. Coleshill have now reached the 3rd round for the first time in their history collecting £1000 for the win over Midland Alliance based Barwell.

It was a real struggle to come up with a team as injuries (and transfers) mount up. Brian Gray and Richard Kavanagh were definately out, Simon Volante and Ryan Scott both failed late fitness tests, Carl Adams, James Dance, Josh McPherson and Matty Robinson were all carrying injuries and to top it all new signing from Bedworth Lee Hunt was cup tied. Kristian Kelsall, Nick Usher and Shay Morgan came in from the reserves.

Coleshill started the game well, looking comfortable against their higher ranked opponents and took a deserved lead on 11 mins. Michael Campbell's strength earned a free kick on the edge of the box. James Dance and Matty Robinson stood over the ball with the later thundering a shot straight at goal. The goal bound effort took a deflection on it's way in but it will be recorded as a Robinson goal. On 15 mins the game stopped as the three officials consulted over a tussle between Coleshill's Ben Usher and Barwell's Kevin Charley, who lay flat out on the ground. Usher was given a red card and after treatment Charley was given the same. The incident seemed to unsettle Coleshill more than the home team and Barwell's No10 should have equalised but headed over a corner. On 24 mins Carl Adams took a quick free kick on the edge of his own box and released Stuart Adamson who made ground down the left, his ball into Campbell's feet was held up by the big striker and with his back to goal he was hauled to the floor, penalty. Robinson again stepped up to take the kick and smashed the ball passed the home keeper for 2-0. Coleshill had breathing space but Barwell were getting more possession and chances. No10 had another good chance with a header, Andrew Tiday had a shot blocked by Dance, Adamson just got back in time to block another effort and Liam Crouchman shot over, then minutes later headed into the ground when infront of goal.

The second half belonged to Barwell as Coleshill manfully defended their lead. The home side dominated possession but their final product was poor with shots and crosses ending up on the roof than anywhere near the goal. On 68 minutes Nick Usher went to head clear a long ball and appeared to get a push in the back, the ball skimming off his head and out for a corner. This was the bit of luck that Barwell were waiting for and they took full advantage as captain Liam Crouchman headed home the corner. Within two minutes Coleshill regained their two goal advantage. Kristian Kelsall picked up the ball on the edge of his own box and ran at the home defence. He got as far as the edge of the opposite box before being brought down. James Dance took his time over the kick but hit a sweet shot over the wall and into the top corner of the net. This knocked the wind out of Barwell's sails and the game drifted somewhat from that point. Chris Butler made a couple of good saves from Tiday and substitute Stephen White but Town held on for a memorable and record breaking win in the FA Vase.

The team get back to their main objective on Tuesday night with Pershore coming to Pack Meadow in a crucial league game, but are hoping some of the injuries clear up quickly.

Team:- Chris Butler, Sam Chatwin, Carl Adams (Nick Usher), Ben Usher, Liam Taylor, Kristian Kelsall, Josh McPherson, Stuart Adamson, Matty Robinson (Shay Morgan), Michael Campbell, James Dance. Subs not used Ryan Scott, Simon Volante.
