Saturday 24th November 2007
Midland Combination Premier Division
Feckenham 2 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorer: James Dance.

Coleshill's injuries still hadn't cleared up for this clash with third from bottom Feckenham. Richard Kavanagh, Brian Gray, Danny Carter, Simon Volante, Andrew Sutherland and Ryan Scott were all missing but Lee Hunt made an impressive debut after transferring from Bedworth.
Town struggled to overcome Feckenham in the first game with a Ryan Gardiner goal in the dying minutes saving the day, so manager Carl Adams knew it was going to be tough going but Coleshill created enough chances to win this game comfortably let alone struggle for a draw. Match reports indicated Feckenham had been unlucky to lose their last two games but their luck turned against the league leaders although, to be fair, their sheer hard work deserved some reward.

Kristian Kelsall and James Dance both had double efforts that failed to test the home keeper in an entertaining, end to end opening period but a Matty Robinson effort on 20mins summed up Coleshill's day. Chris Butler cleared from his hands and the massive kick cleared the home defence, Robinson nipped in to lift the ball over the advancing keeper but the stopper got the finest of touches and the ball clipped the bar on the way over. Kelsall shot into the side netting before Feckenham's first chance when Aaron Barnett shot just past the post. Coleshill never heeded the warning as on 36 mins Feckenham took the lead. Michael Hollis seemed to have nowhere to go but his shot from an acute angle was somehow palmed into the net by Butler. Minutes later and James Hands should have increased the lead but his shot went only just wide. Stuart Adamson cut in from the left and his goal bound effort was pushed onto the bar by the home keeper who was determined not to be beaten. Kelsall had yet another shot defected over before a Michael Campbell back header looped over the keeper, hit the bar, bounced down on the line and with Robinson ready to tap into an open net the keeper came from nowhere and cleared for a corner. Robinson shooting wide from the resulting kick. First half time was running out but there was still time for James Dance to go clear only to see his shot saved by the keeper's feet.

Manager Carl Adams came on for the second half and Coleshill's started where they had left off. Dance had a shot saved on the line, as they upped the pace and pushed for an equaliser but Feckenham looked dangerous on the break with Butler only just getting to a Gifford cross before the advancing Poole. On 55 minutes Coleshill finally levelled the scores but not in straight forward fashion. Robinson got to the ball before the keeper and headed the ball goalward, a home defender did magnificently to acrobatically clear the ball before it crossed the line but as the ball came down Kristian Kelsall was bundled to the ground and a slightly fortunate penalty was awarded. James Dance made no mistake from the spot. Dance and Kelsall had efforts cleared but Robinson shot twice into the side netting. The inform striker could and should have scored three or four but was out of luck every time. On 72 mins Adams took a free kick and Josh McPherson found himself all alone in the box with no flag but he put his effort wide. A draw wasn't really good enough for title chasing Coleshill but as they pushed and pushed for the winner, Feckenham completely spoiled their day. Town half cleared a corner but as the ball came back in Butler challenged for the ball but fell to the ground. Clifford was on hand to pounce on the loose ball and shoot home from 6 yards to regain the lead on 85 mins. It could have been worse as Hollis had an effort saved by Butler in the dying minutes.

A bad day at the office and three unlikely points dropped but we're not even half way yet and lots of crunch games to come. With injuries clearing up and one or two signings still to come, all is not lost.

Team:- Chris Butler, Sam Chatwin, Ben Usher, Lee Hunt,
Liam Taylor (Carl Adams), Josh McPherson, Kristian Kelsall, James Dance, Michael Campbell, Matty Robinson (Shay Morgan), Stuart Adamson. Subs not used Ryan Scott, Simon Volante.
