Saturday 5th January 2008
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 0 v 1 Walsall Wood

Coleshill just can't find a settled side and once again Manager Carl Adams decided to shuffle the pack against a Walsall Wood team who were on a rich vein of form with only one defeat in six games, that one against league leaders Highgate 2-1. Walsall lined up with a solid back four and midfield with two willing runners up front which, for the most part, killed Coleshill's main threat of three up front.

The visitors had the better of the first half hour with Steve Smith having a good shout for a pen, Tulloch, Fuller having shots saved by Craig Johnson playing his third game for Town, and McNaught headed wide from a corner. In reply Danny Carter volleyed a Josh McPherson cross and Brian Gray only just missed a Matty Robinson cross with his head. Coleshill slowly started to get into the game and as the half time whistle approached they had a period of sustained pressure that nearly brought the opening goal. Stuart Adamson crossed from the left, Robinson headed goalward, Wood's keeper parried the ball onto the post and grabbed the ball on the line.

Coleshill started the second half in the ascendancy but couldn't find the break through. Robinson got to the ball just before the visitors keeper, laid the ball back to Richard Kavanaugh who looked to pick his spot but two Wood defenders came from nowhere to dive infront of the ball. Carter had a shot blocked and Neil Kitching and Robinson had headers cleared but Walsall looked dangerous on the break. Fuller had a good run and shot well saved by Johnson before the only goal of the game on 65 mins. Simeon Smith broke clear and reached the ball at the same time as Johnson rushing from his goal to clear. The referee waved play on but his assistant signalled a penalty. My view! I thought Smith was off side in the first place but I would have gave the penalty. Wood captain Anthony Juxon took the kick making no mistake. Simeon Smith could have increased the lead, as could Tulloch but Johnson saved well from both. Coleshill's reply was weak, the nearest being Kristain Kelsall and Richard Kavanaugh forcing corners but defenses were on top so much that it was always going to be the first team to score who would take the points.

Coleshill haven't played well in weeks, even the 5-0 win over Continental Star was unimpressive. Carl Adams must find the winning formula soon otherwise time and games will run out. A good time to start would be this coming week-end Away to Southam but a back to basics is called for with a more solid looking formation, probably the old tried and tested 4-4-2.

Team:- Craig Johnson, Andy Sutherland, Neil Kitching, Lee Hunt, Stuart Adamson (James Dance), Kristian Kelsall, Josh McPherson, Richard Kavanaugh, Danny Carter (Michael Campbell), Matty Robinson, Brian Gray. Subs not used Simon Volante, Ryan Scott.
