Saturday 2nd February 2008
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 6 v 0 Massey Ferguson
Scorers: Danny Carter 3, Michael Campbell, Lee James, James Dance.

Manager Carl Adams almost had a full squad to chose from and the team has a more solid look about it than at any other time this season and a bench full of players who would be regulars in any other Mid Com side. The only down side is the loss of Josh McPherson who looks as though he will be out for a few weeks due a long standing injury that has finally caught up on him. Lee James, a new signing from Sunday football, took a place on the bench.

Massey are going through a lean time with no win in eight but it was the visitors who carved out the early chances. Gary Joynes hit a dipping shot when a corner was half cleared, the effort hit the bar bounced down on the line, hit the back of Craig Johnson in the Town goal and bounced clear.
Joga Duley hit a left foot shot just wide and Sunny Dulai went unchallenged to head over another corner. Coleshill slowly started to settle and forced a series of corners, Neil Kitching having a header cleared off the line. Matty Robinson, James Dance and Steve Smith combined for Robinson to shoot but the effort was deflected for a corner. Coleshill finally made the breakthrough just after the half hour mark with a flowing move. Dance was released by Smith and his low cross into the danger area was smashed home by the onrushing Michael Campbell. Minutes later Simon Volante split open the defence with a cross field ball and Robinson hit a cracking shot that came back into play via the post. Coleshill's leading scorer was out of luck as two further efforts before half time were blocked.

Massey worked ever so hard but their attacking options became less as Coleshill pushed forward. Man of the Match, Massey keeper Mark Sheil saved with his feet from Campbell, then was quick off his line to deny Robinson. Duley cleverly worked a space to hit a shot that hit the outside of the post but this was to be Massey's last chance to get back into the game as Coleshill powered on. Sheil saved from Dance before substitute Lee James, making his debut and with his first touch, struck home after Smith's shot had been parried by Sheil. Coleshill's strength in depth came to the fore as Campbell and Robinson made way for Danny Carter and Ashley Robinson and the move paid dividends. Carter was only on the pitch for 14 mins but the best finisher in this league proved his worth with a superb hat trick. Within 2 mins of coming on Carter was clear on goal and although Sheil saved his first effort the striker was on hand to calmly pass the ball into the net. James Dance was next to escape the Massey defence and finished in style for No4. Sheil saved again from Carter but on 82 mins Carter knicked a ball he should never have got, progressed into the six yard box and with one shimmy sent a defender and the keeper to ground leaving space to roll the ball into the net. The hat trick was complete on 86 mins as Carter hit the keeper in the face with his first effort but made no mistake with the follow up. Craig Johnson, who this week pledged his future to Coleshill, made a save from Duley in the final minute to maintain the clean sheet and an all round impressive second half.

Manager Carl Adams has had to wheel and deal quickly to get the squad he wanted to mount a serious promotion challenge but on this evidence he is not that far away as we approach the business end of the season.

Team: Craig Johnson, Andy Sutherland, Kristian Kelsall, Neil Kitching, Richard Kavanaugh, James Dance, Steve Smith, Simon Volante, Michael Campbell (Ash Robinson), Matty Robinson (Danny Carter), Loz Shannon (Lee James). Subs not used Lee Hunt, Raddi Richards.
