Coleshill Town 4 v 0 Bartley Green

Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Feb 17, 2008 4:34 pm

Saturday 16th February 2008
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 4 v 0 Bartley Green
Scorers: Ashley Robinson, Steve Smith, OG. Danny Carter.

Manager Carl Adams was looking to field a settled side but was forced into two changes. Michael Campbell missed the game due to a one match suspention for five yellows and Kristian Kelsall hadn't recovered from a knock he took in last weeks game. Ashley Robinson came in for his first start since transferring from Stratford and new signing from Alvechurch Lee Millard stepped straight in at left full back.

Coleshill made a very confident start as you would expect from a side who had won the last three games. Dave Nolan had the visitors first chance but his free kick was headed for a corner by Richard Kavanaugh. Andy Sutherland and Lee James combined for the later to cross for Ashley Robinson who volleyed just wide. Andy Millington saw a powerfull shot from 25 yards go over for Green but Coleshill took the lead on 23 mins from a Bartley attack. James Dance pinched the ball and quickly fed Ash Robinson who just got to the ball before the advancing keeper to toe poke home. Lee James then Steve Smith had goalbound efforts blocked as Coleshill upped the pace. Smith fed Matty Robinson who went past the keeper but had his effort saved on the line by a defender, Ash Robinson had a header saved, Matty Robinson had a shot well saved then the two combined for Matty to have a clear sight of goal but sent his shot straight at the keeper. Green hit back just on the break but Craig Johnson made a great save to maintain the clean sheet.

Bartley Green enjoyed more possession and had the better of the chances in the opening 15 mins of the second half. Adam Hooper, Keelan McNally and Myron Semper all had efforts at goal but the break through for Green wouldn't come and so slowly Coleshill regained the upper hand. Dance had a left foot effort deflected for a corner when it was heading for the bottom corner, Neil Kitching had a header cleared and Simon Volante was only stopped on a run as he prepared to shoot from inside the six yard box. The second and killer goal came on 63 mins when Danny Carter and Matty Robinson worked the ball from a throw in, into the box, where Steve Smith took over to smash a left foot shot into the roof of the net. On 73 mins a long ball from Volante was chased by Danny Carter, a defender and the Green keeper. Unfortunatley the later sliced his clearance and the ball spun back into the stopper's own net. Dance had a shot saved by the impressive, if overworked visitors keeper and Green substitute Habib Beuban made a great saving tackle as Smith prepared to shoot infront of goal. Lee James saw his goalbound header tipped over the bar before Carter cleverly brought down a long ball by Kitching and confidently beat the keeper for No4. Lee James should have made it 5 in the closing minutes but sent his shot wide when clean through.

Four wins on the trot but no let up in the pace set by Highgate and Southam as they match Coleshill result for result. Loughborough next then the big one, Highgate at home 1st March.

Team: Craig Johnson, Andy Sutherland, Lee Millard, Neil Kitching, Richard Kavanaugh (Lee Hunt), Lee James, Simon Volante, Steve Smith, Matty Robinson, Ashley Robinson (Danny Carter), James Dance (Loz Shannon). Subs not used Raddi Richards, Ryan Scott.

Fine display from the men in green who continue to keep pace with the leaders. Carl and John have put together a good set of players who will get better over time the more they play together. What a great afternoon out - if you haven't tasted Nicky's chicken & mushroom pies or Donna's great pint of guinness you can't call yourself a football supporter!
