Wednesday 12th March 2008
Midland Combination Premier Division
Brocton 2 v 2 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Matty Robinson, Lee Hunt.

Brocton put in the best performance of any visiting team to Pack Meadow this season back in October and went away with a well deserved 3-0 victory. So Coleshill knew this was going to be tough and would probably have been happy with a draw but in the end some poor defending and the lack of a killer touch cost them dear as the three points were there for the taking.

Ryan Scott filled in at right back in the continued absence of Andy Sutherland and Kristain Kelsall played further up field in a 4-4-2 formation. The wind had eased somewhat by kick off but still favoured the home team in the first half. Richard Reeves put a shot wide, James Dance had an effort blocked and Simon Volante followed up with an effort that narrowly missed the post but it was the long throw of Reeves that caused the most problems in a mostly dissappointing half. Steve Smith shot wide and Gary Fife headed the same at the other end. Neil Kitching sent a dangerous cross along the 6 yard line but Matty Robinson just failed to get a touch. A speculartive cross cum shot from Reeves left Craig Johnson scrambling back to his line and the effort hit the angle of bar and post. Coleshill seemed to be getting on top with Robinson, Volante and Smith all having good efforts but the home team took the lead on 40 mins. A corner was headed goalward, Johnson did well to save on the line and Lee Millard helped out to clear but as the ball came back in Gary Fife jumped highest to head home from a yard out. Ryan Scott was lucky to escape with just a yellow card as the youngster reacted to a late challenge before Coleshill equalised on the stroke of half time. Richard Kavanaugh and James Dance combined for the latter to send in a great cross and Robinson was on the end of it to make no mistake with his head, his 20th of the season.

With the wind now at their backs Coleshill were confident they could go on and win the game but Brocton regained the lead on 49 mins. The action seemed to switch to slow motion as a Reeves long throw landed inside the six yard box. No body took charge and as the defence stood and watched Stephen Bennett stuck out a foot, knocked the ball goalward and saw his weak effort squeeze between the post and the outstretched hand of keeper Johnson. Town forced a corner on 53 mins and Millard's kick was headed in at the far post by Lee Hunt his first in a Coleshill shirt, and Town's 86th of the season, a new club record. Coleshill piled on the pressure with Stuart Adamson and Lee Millard sending in some great crosses but the final touch was missing. Campbell, Robinson and Dance all hit efforts close but not close enough. Johnson saved from Bennett and Dance cleared a dangerous cross from Reeves as Brocton hit back but the best chance again fell to Hunt who headed wide with the goal at his mercy. Coleshill went in search of a winner and switched to three up front but the game petered out leaving Brocton more happy with a point than Town.

Team: Craig Johnson, Ryan Scott (Stuart Adamson), Lee Hunt, Richard Kavanaugh, Lee Millard, Kristain Kelsall, Steve Smith (Michael Campbell), Simon Volante, James Dance (Danny Carter), Neil Kitching, Matty Robinson. Sub not used Ashley Robinson.
