Midland Combination Premier Division
Bolehall Swifts 0 v 5 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Danny Carter 2, Matty Robinson, Stuart Adamson, James Dance.
Richard Kavanaugh was unavailable so Manager Carl Adams decided to play captain Neil Kitching at the back as he has done on a dozen other occasions this season and Danny Carter took his place up front. Andy Sutherland returned to his usual right back position after missing the last two games and Ryan Scott was preferred in midfield to Steve Smith who was visiting his old team for the first time since his transfer.
Coleshill very rarely do well at Swifts, it even said so in their programme, but this was a solid performance with everyone on the top of their game and from the moment Danny Carter scored on 15mins the result was never in doubt.
Ryan Allmark had the first chance when a free kick skimmed off his head. The Swifts striker usually makes a habit of scoring when these two sides meet but this was not to be his day. James Dance had the ball in the net but the effort was ruled off side before Carter scored with his 18th of the season. Strike partner Matty Robinson went into a fullbodied challenge with the home keeper from a Dance through ball. The ball came free to Carter who thundered his shot home from a narrow angle. Simon Volante, who had a great game, sent Carter clear but he had so much time that he hesitated and sent his effort just wide of the post. On 26 mins Ryan Scott won the ball in midfield and passed to Robinson but he dummied the ball, swivelled and got the return from Carter to race clear and stroke the ball home for 2-0. Craig Johnson had to be out quick as he saved at the feet of Ian Purvey and then Purvey pulled the ball back for Craig Haywood whose goal bound effort was blocked by Andy Sutherland, then Torgut Husseyin sent a shot from distance wide as Swifts tried to get back into the game but Carter sent the visitors into the break 3-0 up when he plucked from the air a Scott through ball and finished in one movement.
Swifts started the brighter in the second half and should have reduced the deficit on 52 mins. Haywood crossed and Lee Hunt was adjudged to handle in the box. Allmark stepped up but Johnson saved his first effort and was quickly on his feet to save the rebound. Simon Volante shot just wide then he sent Ashley Robinson clear but the keeper saved well at his feet. Neil Kitching misjudged a header and left Haywood with time in the box but Kitch made up for the error with a tremendous block as Haywood shot for goal, then Purvey hit the outside of the post with a free kick. On 75 mins Dance and Robinson combined and Dance sent over an inch perfect cross for Stuart Adamson to head home his first goal for Town. On 81 mins Michael Campbell's powerful run took him into the box and he selflessly rolled the ball into the path of Dance who ran the ball into the net to celebrate his 21st birthday. Adamson sent Ashley Robinson clear in the final minute but his shot went past the keeper and unfortunately the post as well.
A much better performance. Good tempo throughout, good support from all over the pitch and some quality and confident finishing. The team has got over the dissappointment of the Highgate game and are now looking forward to the visit of Southam next week.
Team: Craig Johnson, Andy Sutherland, Lee Millard, Neil Kitching, Lee Hunt, James Dance, Ryan Scott, Simon Volante, Danny Carter (Ashley Robinson), Matty Robinson (Michael Campbell), Kristain Kelsall (Stuart Adamson). Sub not used Steve Smith.
