Postby Alan Beckett » Mon Apr 07, 2008 7:37 pm

Saturday 5th April 2008
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 3 v 0 Castle Vale
Scorers: Danny Carter 2, Matty Robinson.

A win over Castle Vale is always welcome. There is always history between the two sides and Vale always raise their game especially with five former Coleshill players, and the assistant manager. The scoreline suggests a one sided game but Vale played well, even when down to 10 men, and the difference was the finishing of Town's in form forwards.

There is nothing to chose betwen the three strikers, Matty Robinson (21), Danny Carter (19) and Michael Campbell (18 league goals), so manager Carl Adams didn't choose, he picked all three in an attacking formation with Kristain Kelsall dropping to the bench in an otherwise unchanged team.

Vale started the brighter and their forward, Clint Andrews, should have found the net before Danny Carter did on 7 mins. Andrews had a clear run at goal but his shot was just knocked for a corner by Town keeper Craig Johnson and Johnson made a better save when the corner reached the same player. Andy Sutherland edged further and further forward when unchallenged then passed to Matty Robinson who flicked on for Carter who then shot across the visitors keeper and into the net as easy as you like. Johnson saved again from Andrews as the two played out their own private battle. A James Dance free kick was volleyed goalward but Ryan Byfield saved for a corner before Michael Campbell cleverly held up the ball, laid back to Dance who fed a through ball to Robinson who then in turn passed to Carter who was free again to pick his spot in the other corner. Coleshill were rampant now but efforts from Dance, Carter and Robinson failed to increase the lead until Vale committed suicide on the stroke of half time. Robinson fed Carter again but Byfield came out of his box and as Carter went passed the stopper he was clipped by the stranded keeper. Red card. And to make matters worse Robinson stroked the free kick home for a 3-0 half time lead.

Vale battled well with the reduced numbers and deserved reward for their hard work but Coleshill defended well and could have increased the lead with better finishing. Carter shot wide when a pass to either Campbell or Robinson would have been the better option. Robinson hit the post, Campbell's effort was blocked on the line and Vale stand in keeper Dave Timmins saved from Dance and Carter but in all it was a dissappointing 2nd 45 with the game already won in the 1st.

A twelth clean sheet of the season and five straight wins puts Coleshill top of the form league but it may have all come too late as the games run out.

Team: Craig Johnson, Andy Sutherland, Lee Millard (Stuart Adamson)(Kristain Kelsall), Neil Kitching (Dave Davies), Lee Hunt, James Dance, Simon Volante, Steve Smith, Matty Robinson (Ryan Scott), Danny Carter, Michael Campbell. Subs not used Dave Davies, Chris Butler.
