Adams looks for progress as twin success eases fears
Writes the Coleshill Herald
THE saying that a week is a long time in football has never been more apt for Carl Adams.
Last week, the Coleshill Town FC manager was staring potential relegation in the face after his side's worrying slide down the Midland Alliance table.
But back-to-back wins at Heather St John on Saturday and at home to Dunkirk on Tuesday night have changed his outlook.
The Colemen have now moved seven points clear of the bottom three, although Alvechurch do have a game in hand.
And the precious six points have also seen Coleshill move within five points of the top 10.
"It's a bizarre league this year," said Adams.
"You lose a few games and you are looking over your shoulder.
"Win a couple, like we did this week, and suddenly you are aiming high again.
"It's been a massive week for us, a crucial one but now we have given ourselves some breathing space.
"We just need to keep plugging away now because we want to finish as high as possible.
"You always want to end the season with some momentum and that is exactly what we want to do.
"If we could go on a little run between now and the end of the season, we could end up comfortable mid-table and I think we would be happy with that."
Adams believes his decision to bolster his squad last week has proved important in lifting the side to two wins.
The Coleshill boss added former players David Brush, Chris Lloyd and Liam Gibbins to his squad last weekend.
Ex-Coleshill midfielder Chris Gumery also returned for Tuesday night's clash with Dunkirk, arriving on loan from Sutton Coldfield Town, although he was sent off late on.
"Maybe I stayed loyal to some of the lads for too long when really we needed to add some fresh faces," Adams said. "You need competition for places and we have got that now.
"I think it will keep everyone on their toes between now and the end of the campaign.
"Our problem all season has been inconsistency. We have been a Jekyll and Hyde side throughout and these last couple of weeks have been another example.
"We need to try and build on these couple of wins now.
"It won't be easy as we travel to Tividale this weekend.
"But if we could get a point there, suddenly you are looking at seven points from nine and that's top form."
