Coleshill gaffer near to completing squad
Writes The Coleshill Herald
COLESHILL Town boss Jason Lanns hopes to have his squad in place by the end of this week as they prepare for the start of the Midland Alliance season.
The Colemen begin a raft of friendlies when they visit Coton Green on Saturday, and Lanns is hopeful he will have most, if not all, of his personnel signed up by then.
Lanns has already signed up Jason Ramsay, Liam Mansell, Richard Gregory, Danny Carter and Chris Lloyd from last season's squad.
And he has also brought four as yet unnamed players in from elsewhere, with an eye on adding nine or ten more in the next couple of days.
Lanns said: "We started off training with 30 players, then it went down to 22, then up to 35 and up again to 46!
"We'll whittle it down but it's all part and parcel – I'm looking to build a good, small, strong squad of about 18-20, and everyone is as keen as mustard to start.
"I want to get the squad sorted before the friendlies really because the season is only around the corner."
In addition to the Coton clash, Coleshill will host Chasetown on Saturday, July 21 (3pm) and visit Romulus on Monday, July 23 (7.45pm).
They then host Bedworth on Tuesday, July 24 (7.45pm) and round off pre-season at home to Pilkington XXX on Saturday, July 31 (3pm).
Due to administrative delays, Coleshill and the rest of the Alliance are still awaiting their league fixtures.
But they did find out their path on the Road to Wembley this week as the preliminary round draws for the FA Cup were released.
Coleshill will host AFC Wulfrunians in the extra preliminary round with Kidsgrove Athletic (home) and then Barwell (away) lying in wait if they progress.
Lanns added: "AFC Wulfrunians play a league below but they are a very strong side, and it will be a very good game. Kidsgrove are a league above us, I watched them last season and they are a good side, and Barwell are the league above that.
"It's not going to be easy for us but we just have to be strong and come together as a team – it's a difficult path but we would hope we can get as far as Barwell at least."
