Heavy workload in pre-season for Town
Writes The Coleshill Herald
COLESHILL Town's preparations for the forthcoming season are in full swing following three friendly matches in the space of just four days, writes Jonathan Day.
The first of these tests was at home to Chasetown Reserves on Saturday, with the visitors winning 2-0.
The Colemen created several chances in the first half, with Barry Fitzharris having a particularly good game.
In the second half, new manager Jason Lanns took the opportunity to try some different tactics and to give other players some game time.
Coleshill's next game was a trip to Romulus on Monday evening.
Coleshill narrowly went down 2-1 to the Sutton-based side, in a performance that will have pleased the new boss. New signing Joseph Lyng got the only goal for Coleshill in a match where Danny Carter particularly stood out in a good overall team display.
Five members of the club's youth team also came off the bench for the last 20 minutes.
The third friendly in four days for the Colemen was at home to Bedworth United.
Despite an impressive first half display, Lanns' boys finished up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline, Danny Carter getting the goal.
Lanns has been pleased with the performances during the recent friendlies, saying: "It has been very good preparation, and people have been very impressed with how we have played.
"It's performances that we are looking for at the moment rather than the results.
"We've looked bright against teams from higher divisions."
With Coleshill's new league campaign in the Midland Alliance fast approaching, Lanns revealed his side are not setting specific targets.
"We just want to finish as well as we can this season," said Lanns.
Coleshill's squad for the new season is taking shape, with Martin Crawford, Jack Moss, Philip Gale, Joseph Lyng and Junior Brown all joining.
This is in addition to the club retaining the services of Sam Wilson, Chris Charles, Barry Fitzharris, Jason Ramsey, Danny Carter and Richard Gregory.
Coleshill begin their season on August 4 at home to Bridgnorth Town.
