Midland Combination Challenge Cup Round 2.
Evesham United 3 v 1 Coleshill Town
Scorer: Christopher.
Sunday Mercury Wrote:
Evesham booked a place in the quarter final of the Challenge Cup. The home side took a 4th minute lead when sweeper Keith Brown headed home a cross from Trevor Smith. Two minutes into the second half Derek Christopher put the visitor’s level. Three minutes later Bob Candy broke through to put United in front. Coleshill had an effort cleared off the line and Evesham’s Mickey Brookes made three saves. Following a spell of pressure in the closing minutes Candy scored United’s third with a minute remaining.
Team: Chapman, Hughes, Cooke, Hurst, Edmonds, Gormley, Taylor, Whipps, McNaught, Christopher, Wilson. Subs Paul, Hall.

Birmingham Youth & Old Boys League
Coleshill Town 3-0 Sheldon Town
Scorers: Ronnie Birch, Alan Rowley 2.

When Jimmy Hillias failed to show up the Town were faced with the problem of playing a man short but the vacant spot was filled by Alan Rowley who left a tasty lunch behind to play. Ronnie Birch in his first game for Town signalled his debut with an opening goal on 14minutes and this was the score at the interval. Sheldon never allowed the home side to monopolise the proceedings and were unlucky not to score when Mayling stood in front of an open goal – Statham kicking off the line. Rowley made up for missing his lunch by scoring two goals to make the points safe. Along with Rowley, Houghton played a storming game at left back in the absence of Meehan on League Duty.

Trent Valley League
Kingsbury Colliery 1 v 0 Coleshill Town
Coleshill Chronicle Wrote:-
These teams met at Kingsbury on Saturday last before a good attendance including many Coleshill supporters. Clare won the toss and elected to defend the bottom goal. Coleshill started with 10 men only, Dudley the inside left forward did not put in an appearance and Lee, one of the spectators filled the position until half time. The opening play was principally midfield and neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled. Coleshill were having much the better of the game but were met with a sound defence the Colliery half backs and backs playing finely. Kingsbury took the lead after 25 minutes play. A huge kick by one of the Colliery backs landed in front of the Coleshill goal and the ball cannoned off Freeman right away from Hinton who was ready to clear. This was hard lines for Coleshill for the Colliery forwards had not shaped at all like scoring. Coleshill continued to hold the upper hand until half time but could not score and the whistle blew with the homesters leading by one goal.
After the re-start Coleshill tried hard to draw level, shot after shot being put into the Kingsbury goal but the defence was splendid. A fine effort by Wright deserved to score, his final shot missed by inches and the same player a few minutes after slipped when a goal seemed certain. Williams on the left wing was greatly handicapped through not having a partner but worked hard with the other forwards to try and draw level. One of the Colliery forwards broke away about 15 minutes from the close and seemed certain to score but Hinton made a wonderful save for which he was heartily applauded. Coleshill continued to press until the whistle went and the homesters ran out winners by one goal to nil.
The match was capitally contested throughout. Coleshill were unfortunate in having to play a man short during the last half of the game but several of the Kingsbury supporters expressed the opinion that the game was the best played on the ground this season. Coleshill deserved to win and if the full team had been on the field there is no doubt that they would have done so. The teams meet again at Coleshill on Saturday in the return match and a capital game should be witnessed.
Team: Goal; Hinton, backs; P.Neville, Grout, half backs; Freeman, Clare, Clive, forwards; Nichols, Wright, Harbage, Lee, Williams. Referee Mr Bristol.
