Coleshill took the lead after 10mins when Christopher netted. Five minutes later Edmonds scored then Link hit an astonishing third with a header. Hall netted for Evesham with a 30yard free kick in the 77th min and Candy hit a second.

Town’s heavy defeat appeared far off when Houghton slammed them in front after only 10mins play, but once the “pitmen” had netted the equaliser they took command and ran out worthy winners. This was Coleshill’s worst display of the season and certainly their heaviest defeat. Their defence was never happy against the visitors attack, whose “spearhead” was Derek Orchard, ably supported by Haynes and Gilbert.
Town donned in white owing to a clour clash kicked off with a lightning raid on the visitors goal but Mullards centre was cleared by Kirkham. The visitors were not slow to retaliate a clever right wing interpassing between Gilbert and Orchard providing Taylor with a flashing shot that passed only inches wide of the Town goal. Coleshill took the lead with a surprise goal in the 10th minute, when following a corner from Rowley, the ball went to Houghton who drove a 20 yard shot passed the unsighted Wood. North Warwick were undismayed and were soon back at the Town end where Orchard went close with a glancing header. The visitors were showing fine form and got their true reward in the 23rd minute, Orchard dropping a deft pass to Gilbert, who easily beat Cooper. The Town defence was often caught on the wrong foot and were finding it hard to cope with the “pitmens” fleet-footed attack. In the 33rd minute Orchard put the visitors in front. The home forwards were finding the Colliery defence hard to negotiate and with Harry Stokes being almost non-existent it was left to Reynolds to make the best of a poor job. North Warwick extended their lead in the 33rd minute when a high cross from the right wing was nodded into the net by the energetic Orchard. In the second half Coleshill failed to raise any hopes of staving off defeat and were pushed further behind by Bobby Guild. A little later the same player scored the visitors fifth goal with a dipping cross-shot. The Town defence went to pieces in the closing stages and it was no surprise to see Orchard complete his “hat-trick” and take North Warwick through to the next round.

These teams met at Coleshill on Saturday last in the return League match. Coleshill visited Kingsbury the previous Saturday and after a good game were rather unfortunately defeated by the only goal scored. Coleshill had their usual team out but the Colliery made a few changes from the team that played the previous week and it was considered the strongest they have played this season. Clare won the toss and set his men to kick down hill. Right from the start the game was fast and both defences were soon called upon. Coleshill had slightly better of the opening play and scored about five minutes from the start. Kingsbury tried hard to equalise but Coleshill were soon around the Colliery goal again giving their defence a warm time. A grand shot by N.Neville was disposed of in great style by the Colliery keeper. Later a splendid shot hit underneath the crossbar and bounced down and was cleared. Coleshill confidently appealed for a goal on the ground that the ball dropped some distance over the goal line but the referee gave his decision against the homesters. Just before half time the Colliery broke away and one of their forwards put in a hot shot at close range. Hinton did well to stop the ball but he could not clear it away. P.Neville twice kicked over the ball as it lay a few yards from the goal mouth and a Colliery player came up and scored with a shot which gave Hinton no chance whatever.
On the resumption the Kingsbury forwards got away in promising style but the home defence did not give anything away. The half backs in particular were playing capital football and soon set their forwards going. The Colliery defence had an anxious time for several minutes. In the last few minutes the fog made it exceedingly difficult to follow the play. Both sides made great efforts to gain the lead but the whistle blew with the score one all and thus terminated one of the keenest encounters witnessed on the Parkfield Road ground. The Coleshill team was: Goal; Hinton, backs; Neville, Grout, half backs; Freeman, Clare, Clive, forwards; Nichols, Neville, Harbage, Neville, Williams.
Coleshill should have played Atherstone Town in the return League match on Saturday at Coleshill but the Atherstone secretary wrote on Tuesday to say they had a cup-tie with Kingsbury Colliery and could not come to Coleshill. The matter was brought up at the usual monthly meeting of the Trent Valley League held on Wednesday evening and it was arranged that Coleshill should play Wilnecote Trinity at Wilnecote. Owing to the number of cup-ties in which Trent Valley League teams are engaged during the next few weeks, no League games could be arranged for the month of December but it is probable that efforts will be made to arrange matches during the Christmas holidays. Coleshill will however have several cup-ties to play as they have entered for the Leamington and Chapel End Cups in addition to the Coleshill Cup.
