Trent Valley League
Amington 0 v 4 Coleshill Town
Scorers: A.Bullock, F.Brooks, Clive pen, Harbage.
Coleshill Chronicle Wrote:-
This match was played at Amington on Saturday last before a good gate. Coleshill had to re-arrange theit team owing to Stevens and Wright being unable to turn out. F.Brooks and A.Bullock filled the vacancies. Amington won the toss and kicked down hill. Coleshill soon gave evidence of their superiority and after three minutes play Bullock got possession and scored with a grand low drive, which gave the goalkeeper no chance. From the kick off Amington got away down the right only to be smartly pulled up by Grout. The referee – Mr W. Richardson – had to caution one of the Amington players for foul play and his firm handling of the game at this period had the effect of keeping play clean. Eighteen minutes from the start Williams raced away on the left and sent in a beautiful centre, which F.Brooks promptly met and scored. This goal seemed to spur the home team up to greater efforts and they had a spell of attacking but the Coleshill backs and goalkeeper played splendidly and prevented the homesters from scoring. Coleshill again took up the attack and about five minutes before half time seemed certain to score when one of the home players knocked the ball down with his hand in the penalty area. The referee promptly awarded the penalty kick and Clive scored. Half time arrived with the score 3-0 in Coleshill’s favour.
From the kick off Amington tried hard to reduce the lead and Hinton had several opportunities to show his skill. The homesters could not maintain the pressure and Coleshill forwards getting away Finlan had hard lines with a great shot which was a few inches too high. Play continued in the homesters quarters and Harbage scored the fourth goal with a remarkably fast shot after half an hours play. A few minutes later the same player looked like getting through again only to be badly tripped just outside the penalty area. He was brought down very heavily and was forced to retire. Play continued very fast and Bullock again missed by inches with a splendid shot. The whistle then blew, Coleshill being the winners of a fast game by 4-0.
A feature of the game was the refereeing of Mr Richardson. But for his firm handling from the outset the game would have been completely spoilt. The Coleshill players were all in good form. Hinton did all his work in excellent style and Neville and Grout played well at backs. They seem to improve in every match they play. The half backs were good alike in defence and assisting their forwards. The forwards combined well and shot at every possible opportunity. With their strongest available side out Coleshill will require a lot of beating and they should finish in a creditable position in the League. The team was: Goal Hinton, backs, Neville, Grout; half backs, Freeman, Clare, Clive; forwards, Bullock, F.Brooks, Harbage, Finlan, Williams.
On Saturday Coleshill visit Arley to play Arley Villa in the first round of the Chapel End Cup. The Villa a running a strong team this season and a good game is expected.
