100 Years Ago 1912/13

Saturday 21st December 1912
Coleshill Charity Cup Round 1.
Kingsbury Reform Club 1 v 3 Coleshill Town
Scorers: Clive pen, Unknown, Unknown..
Coleshill Chronicle Wrote:-
These teams met at Kingsbury on Saturday last, in the first round of the Coleshill Charity Cup before a good attendance. The homesters, a set of smart young players, put a lot of energy into the game and were the first to score. Neville, when pressed by an opposing forward put the ball back to Hinton, but one of the Kingsbury players secured possession and scored easily. A few minutes afterwards Coleshill were awarded a penalty, and Clive, taking the kick, successfully equalised the scores. Half time arrived with the score 1-1.
On the resumption Coleshill had the best of the game, but there was a lack of that smartness in front of goal which has characterised their play of late. Two goals were added to their score during the second half and Coleshill ran out winners of a scrambling game by three goals to one.

On Boxing Day Atherstone Town visit Coleshill to play the return League match and this game should be worth witnessing. Coleshill have a little account to settle with the “Hatters” – a score of 9-1 in the opening match of the season is not likely to be forgotten.
