THIS WEEK 2012/13 No33

25 Years ago, 1987/88

Saturday 12th March 1988
Midland Combination
Coleshill Town 1 v 1 Kings Heath
Scorers: Eddie Sandiford.
Sunday Mercury Wrote:
Kings Heath rekindled some of their early season sparkle to gain a deserved point at Coleshill Town thanks to a second half equaliser from George. In the opening stages Coleshill pressed strongly with man of the match Sandiford flicking the ball to Christopher who had his strong 15 yard shot finely saved by Butt, the visitors goalkeeper. Coleshill took the lead after 10 minutes when a fine cross from Christopher was stabbed home by Sandiford from 6 yards. Kings Heath came into the game towards the end of the first half and scored the equaliser within 3 minutes of the re-start.

100 Years Ago 1912/13

Saturday 15th March 1913
Leamington Hospital Cup Semi Final
Coleshill Town 2 v 5 Coventry Catholic YMS
Scorers: Unknown.
Coleshill Chronicle Wrote:
Coleshill went to Leamington on Saturday 15th March to play Coventry CYMS in the Semi-Final of the Leamington Hospital Cup and to the disappointment of their supporters were defeated by 5 goals to 2. Clare lost the toss and Coleshill had to kick against a strong wind but they had equally as much of the play as their opponents, but when the whistle blew for half time the Coventry team were leading by 1-0.
The second half was evenly played for a time, until the score reached 3-2 against Coleshill. Then the Catholics scored their fourth goal, and this seemed to take all the spirit out of the Coleshill attack. Shortly afterwards a penalty was given against Grout and Coleshill were well beaten by 5-2.
Team: Goal; Hinton, Backs; Neville and Grout, Half Backs; Freeman, Clare, and Clive, Forwards; Nichols, Reeve, Wright, Finlan and Williams.
Fixtures: Saturday 22nd March, Arley Villa v 2nd South Staffordshire Regiment, Semi-Final Replay Coleshill Charity Cup. Easter Monday, Coleshill v Arley Villa or Staffs Regiment, Coleshill Charity Cup Final.
