Billing dreams of Vase run to capture hearts in Coleshill
Writes the Coleshill Herald
COLESHILL Town FC go in search of FA Vase glory as they play host to Racing Club Warwick this Saturday.
And chairman Paul Billing hopes the appeal of a cup run will boost crowds at the Midland Alliance club.
A place in the second round and £900 in prize money awaits the winner of the tie and Billing is expecting a testing afternoon.
He said: "The game will be a tough one.
"They are in the league below us but are by no means a walkover.
"They are in good form and won 7-0 in their last cup tie, so they are coming into this game with confidence."
"But hopefully we can come through the tie. We will be hoping to get a few more people in and watching.
"Getting the town interested is the main aim for us and a run in the FA Vase would certainly help."
Last weekend, Coleshill played out a thrilling league match against Midland Alliance table-toppers Highgate United, drawing 4-4.
And Billing was left very pleased with the result and entertainment on show.
"It was a brilliant game," he said. "We played excellently to reply from 3-1 down and then to go 4-3 down in injury time.
"The lads showed that real determination to get something from the game and we were worthy of a point.
"If we can play like that every week we will soon be attracting more fans and climbing up the table at the same time".
Meanwhile, Coleshill Town's clash with Conference Premier side Tamworth in the Birmingham Senior Cup was called off on Tuesday night.
And Billing said there were positives and negatives to be taken from the postponement, caused by a waterlogged pitch.
"Obviously it's never good to have a game called off due to weather," he said. "It would have been nice to get it out of the way.
"But we do want a good surface for Saturday and, had the game gone ahead, the pitch would have been in a bad state for the Vase match.
"Besides that, with England playing and the poor weather, the crowd would have been smaller as a result".
The tie has been rearranged for Tuesday, November 5, having originally been rearranged for October 29.
