Shirley’s brave second half fight back counted for nothing and they slipped to defeat in this bottom of the table clash. Coleshill had taken a 4th minute lead through Rhodes and the same player added a second from the penalty spot seven minutes later. But with the wind in their favour Shirley launched an all out assault on the Coleshill goal in the second half. They had to wait until 10 minutes from time before Simon Miller got a goal back but several goalside clearances stopped them from getting an equaliser.

HARRY MAKES A COMEBACK FOR THE TOWN

Coleshill Town continue to hold the headlines. For the past two weeks newsof the most disturbing and unhappy nature has filtered in from the Town’s headquarters – a broken leg by one of their players, leaving secretary Bernard Knight a very dejected fellow. Such was the state of affairs prior to his team’s visit to play M.E.S.C. that an S.O.S. was sent out to a man who at the close of last season decided to call it a day. The man who got this urgent appeal was Town’s long serving “utility” player Harry Stokes and to the happy surprise of everyone concerned he consented to make a “comeback”. As Bernard Knight sat in the dressing room watching Harry pulling on the old familiar No9 shirt, his mind must have wandered back to the good old days when Harry was always good for a “hat-trick”. Little did he think that within the space of 90 minutes he would have the gloom of recent weeks swept away with the aid of his old stalwart – a couple of goals maybe, but four, never! But this is just what the veteran Harry Stokes did and I feel sure that local sportsmen will endorse my action by giving this fine effort the full treatment. It did not take Stokes long to get a feel of things and within the space of 15 minutes he had shattered the back of the “Electricians” net with two fine goals. This glorious “come back” began to lose its lustre as M.E.S.C. scored twice to draw level and just before half time slide 3-2 in the lead – Town’s hopes of victory began to tilt. Harry’s presence gave the Green and Whites that little extra confidence and with sleeves rolled up they trooped out determined not to let him down. Jimmy Hillias came through to put Town on level terms and within minutes Stokes had recaptured the lead. This was just what the doctor ordered and when John Hodgings made it five, Coleshill were facing victory – Harry Stokes completed the happy proceedings with a final sixth goal.

The Coleshill Chronicle stopped publication after this date but was bought by Tamworth Herald and was reintroduced once again as the Coleshill Chronicle on 24th January. Several results are missing over this period.

Coleshill Town were defeated 4-2 in a replayed Birmingham Junior Cup match with Kingsbury Colliery. One player didn’t appear and his absence considerably handicapped Coleshill.
