WOLVES NET TWO GOALS IN A MINUTE
Wolves took the initiative and Gallagher wasted a golden chance of firing them into a first minute lead when he sent his close-range straight at keeper Lutwyche after an inch perfect cross from Gooding. Wolves, fielding their Division Three table-topping side, were dominating play with Lutwyche making a brave save from the unmarked Bull. But Coleshill showed that they too could be dangerous and in the tenth minute Wolves keeper Kendall had to dive smartly to his right to stop a low angled drive from Town winger Taylor. Then, in the 23rd minute, Lutwyche denied Wolves the lead when he made a tremendous save to stop a shot from Bennett that looked a certain goal. The lethal Bull got the ball in the back of the Coleshill net with a superb shot in the 28th minute but he was ruled offside by referee Barratt of Coventry. Then, five minutes later, Bull got in a tremendous header that rattled the Town crossbar. The Molineux side continued to press and Robinson tried a shot from 30 yards that flew just wide of the far post. Then Robertson headed high to a left wing corner from Gooding. Town broke away three minutes before the interval and Rhodes capped a fine solo run with a shot that flew only inches high of the target.

Wolves took Bull off at the interval as a precaution and he was replaced by substitute Matt Green. The first threat of the new half came from Coleshill with Wilson firing his effortover the Wolves bar. But Wolves were soon back holding the reins with keeper Lutwyche doing well to dive and hold on to a 58th minute header from Robinson. Sixty seconds later Wolves efforts were rewarded when Green made no mistake with a close-range header to a cross from Gooding. Robinson made it 2-0 a minute later when he fired home a low shot to another good ball from the hard working Gooding.

WOLVES TRIUMPH

Three superbly taken second-half goals from top of Division Three Wolves knocked brave Coleshill Town out of the Birmingham Senior Cup, in front of 2038 fans at Molineux. Manager Graham Taylor fielded his first team against Town and, understandably, they were just too good for the Midland Combination side. Coleshill tried hard and managed to keep Wolves goalless in the opening 45 minutes with the help of a series of marvellous saves from keeper Louis Lutwyche. But after the break it was a different story. Wolves’ class began to tell and they stunned Coleshill by crashing home two goals in two minutes. Substitute Matt Green made no mistake in the 59th minute with a close=range header from the right-wing cross from Nick Gooding. Then, a minute later, Gooding floated over another inch perfect ball and Phil Robinson was on hand to drill home. It was 3-0 toWolves in the 70th minute when Jackie Gallagher fired home a defence=splitting pass from substitute Robbie Dennison. Wolves striker Steve Bull, the leading marksman in the Football League, was taken off at half-time, but he had earlier hit the Town cross-bar with a powerful header. Lutwyche twice denied Bull with brave saves and also made a tremendous stop to keep out a cracking shot from Tom Bennett.

The Coleshill Chronicle stopped publication in December 1963 but was bought by Tamworth Herald and reintroduced once again as the Coleshill Chronicle on 24th January. Several results are missing over this period. However one result known but no details was a Coleshill Charity Cup defeat to Stockingford Allotments.

Coleshill Chronicle Wrote:
Coleshill Town paid their return visit to the Stadium on Saturday last (3rd Jan) and as on the previous occasion when these teams met, they shared the points. The visitors lost the toss and the Trams set them to face a stiff wind. The ground was treacherous and greasy but with the wind to help them the Trams quickly took up the aggression and had opened the scoring when the game was but five minutes old. They soon afterwards increased their lead. This reverse seemed to put more life into the game and just prior to half time Dyke managed to score for the Town.
Half Time: Birmingham Corporation Trams 2, Coleshill Town 1.

From the beginning of the second half the visitors attacked with vigour and penned the Trams in their own half practically the whole of the time. Dyke scored the equaliser early and then there was one continuous bombardment of the home goal and it is a miracle it remained in tact. Nicholls, Smith and Dyke were the outstanding players of the game.
Result: Birmingham Corporation Trams 2, Coleshill Town 2.

The two sides meet again this Saturday (10th Jan) at Coleshill in the 4th Round of the Evelyn Cecil Shield with the same team with the exception of Franklin for Hinton.
